Thought this was a bargain.........a usb webcam for 49p. Hinckley had a shelf full. Obviously going to be quite store specific I would have thought. Not looked online.

Anyone confirm whether it works with PS3 or not? The USB light comes on, but eyecreate doesn't recognise it as a camera - neither does the PS3 XMB (under camera settings)

Googled it and apparently it does work on PS3........rep given for info / help

Found this, for use as PS3 ingame chat

I don't know about PS3, although I doubt it.

However a quick Google will find PC drivers for it. Certainly a cheap web cam.

I use mine on XP and the Mic is great and the camera is a better Rez then most cheap webcams, great cheap cam for XP at least

anyone seen them in Liverpool?

I use it as a webcam and a microphone on XP and have been doing so for years, beat all my mates webcams back then by miles, don't use it that much anymore so couldn't make a recent comparison. I did have to download the right drivers for it though which took ages to find lol hot price

Wish I'd bought more now for you lot on HUKD, can check if any stock left on Saturday??

Figured the P&P costs would negate any savings on the eyetoy.

Prior to buying a PLAYSTATION Eye, I used a PS2 EyeToy as a microphone (& a camera) with a few PS3 titles.

See Comment #8 in this previous deal listing:

"Sony EyeToy (used) INSTORE 50p @ GameStation (Can be used in XP/Vista)"

Hi - do you just plug it into the PS3 and go, or do you have to do anything special first? It would be fab if it works on PS3!

YOu want me to re check Hinckley for you Tomorrow? Obviously you will have to pay postage costs on top, but I will only charge what it costs. Got some jiffy bags hanging about I won't charge for

Note the difference in the naming of the products.

PS2: EyeToy
PS3: PLAYSTATION Eye

Just plug the PS2 EyeToy into a spare USB port on the front of your PS3. Nothing "special" required.

I cannot tell you that every PS3 title will be 100% compatible though. "First party" [* see below] titles will be OK, but not all of the "third party" ones.

I did forget to add though, that you may also use the PS2 EyeToy with the "SingStar" series as that is developed by Sony's London Studio. They originally developed the EyeToy software as well!

* Note:
A "first party" developer is one that is part of the organisation that manufactures a video games console, is a specific division of the manufacturer, or was once an independent studio before the console manufacturer acquired them.

A "third party "developer is not directly connected with the console manufacturer. They may have an exclusive agreement to develop/publish products (games) for the console though.

Thanks folks, bit confused, but helpful advice too!
I told my son and he says he's already tried to use his PS2 eye toy on his PS3 but said something about having to go in a chat room? Lost already.... said it wouldn't work on the game he's playing (Little Big Planet). Any deals on the PS3 version of the eye toy?!

It should work on LBP, in theory at least. I'll check it later and report back. The games it WON'T work on are the new PS3eye things like eyepet
