Deal of the week. Seems cheaper if you spend points (~£2.15 for me)

"Can you survive the wrath of Alma Wade? Test your nerves and face your fears in this survival horror shooter!"

Just noticed the new categories. Have they been applicable for long? Oh, btw, I won't be buying this one myself as it's 14GB! But I'm sure that won't bother some of you.

They should recruit a pirate to repack this to half the size!
Good price though.

Fear 2 can be activated in steam. If so, this is a cracking deal as it removes any Games for Live etc.

I will test tonight when I am home from work.

I've played this game right through about three times now. It's still got appeal. I can run it at high FPS on my Nvidia 9600M lappy at 1368 x 768 with all the detail settings at maximum. Recommended.

A friend of mine has already got it and can confirm that it's not registerable on Steam. Messed up given that the retail disc versions are.

You can obviously understand why it isn't though if you think about it.

Games for Windows Live is losing the battle at the moment, severely.

I'll buy tonight and report back but it sounds like it doesn't work. Fingers crossed though.

Does anyone know if this will place achievements into your xbox live account?
#12
I was wondering that myself, I think it does because Halo 2 for Windows could if you signed in using the same Live ID.
#13
interesting might buy it to play in a few months as im currently playing the 360 version lol.
#14
Games for Windows Live is poo though mate, that's the main reason I haven't used it since Halo 2, I did get a gaming-capable laptop recently but an article I read in Edge about the service a few months ago put me off for life.

It is completely free though, unlike it's xbox equivalent, not sure how they justify that one to be honest.
#15
ALso should point out the game is over 14GB I believe. If you're on one of those capped ISPs then take that into account.
#16
very valid point, im currently using onlive at the moment (as have a 50mb)
its a pretty impressive program and havent had any lag with the games shame the selection could be a little more vast.

onlive available in the UK?
#18
officially no, but if your connection can take it there is a 30 min trial for each game and the option to buy or rent for a few days. just sign up via the website and give a american address they dont take card details on the sign up.

I thought you needed an adapter and controller to play onlive?
#20
To be fair, anybody on a strictly capped ISP deal shouldn't really be using digital download services to buy games like this since it would likely always just end up costing them more in the long run anyway.
#21
I believe the adapter is coming out later to use it with a telly and a lan cable, at the moment its just the program for pc which you can connect a 360 controller to.

That's awesome, I didn't even know that worked over here, although I don't have access to a decent US VPN at the moment and I just assumed that it wouldn't work without one.

I only have Virgin 10Mb anyway though so I doubt it would work very well for me anyway. My brother has the same connection as you and it's awesome.

But if your PC has HDMI out then it's a win anyway I suppose. :)
#24
mine does just too lazy to take my pc down stairs lol
#25
How does it handle HD graphics though? Surely, even with all of the hard work done server side, Crysis on an old laptop with a low res screen is still going to look crap.
#26
the age of the laptop wouldn't be a problem as long as it meets the min requirements the low res screen may lead to the graphics being downgraded slightly.
#27
I might give it a whirl later, see if I can get it working. I always liked the premise, just not the limited region availability.

Does anyone know if this will place achievements into your xbox live account?

From what I can see on the MS website it doesn't appear to have achievements.

Games like Halo 2, Shadowrun and Fallout 3 which I know have achievements, all have a little box in a Game Features section listing Achievements as one of the features. FEAR 2 doesn't state it has achievements in this version.

I double checked by going to Xbox360Achievements.org and they don't have FEAR 2 listed under PC games with achievements.

Microsoft really don't help themselves by having Games for Windows, and Games for Windows LIVE, being very similar in name, but quite different in what they deliver. GFW is completely useless as it just means it runs on Windows, whereas GFWL means it is linked in with your gamertag and should therefore have achievements.
#29
I think it's like the case with the earlier PS3 titles which didn't, and still don't, support trophies.

GFWL is a joke though to be honest, they've been severely pummelled to death by Steam.

Sorry, what? The file size of a game does not indicate good value or if the game itself is any good

My copy of FEAR 2 runs through Steam.

but where did you buy it from? Was it from MS in this deal, or was it a retail copy that you registered with Steam?

We know that there are copies that do work with Steam, the question is do the copies in this deal register with Steam - and answers above seem to show it can't.
#34
Think I bought my copy of FEAR 2 from Amazon a couple of years ago. God know how I registered with Steam but I must have managed it somehow.

Just in case it helps anyone, if you think you will like FEAR 2, then give Timeshift a go. They are similar FPS games and for my money, Timeshift is the better game. I bought it about three years ago for £2.95 so it's out there for pennies if you look hard enough.
