Why is this expired? Offer looks very good and appears to be still active.

Irish research has always been very difficult since a lot of records were destroyed in the 1920's and those that do survive are usually control by the church, therefore, access has not been possible/easy.

However, in the past few months more resources are now coming online. Here's a few of my favourite that may help. Also, note that Irish Census 1911 (and soon 1901) is free.

http://www.ancestryireland.com/ - searches are free but detail will cost

Hope it helps.

I agree that there are a lot of family tree programs that are cheaper. However, this is not just a family tree program on offer. This offer, in my opinion, is 6 months subscription to World Records at Ancestry.com for about 45% of the normal subsciption cost with the added bonus you get the family history program, thrown in, for what is in effect FREE. :-D An excellent offer (many thanks OP) - and OH will be getting a bit hint from me that Santa might want to get this in for Christmas.:gift:

Yes, family history research should be labelled with a warning because for some people it can become a terrible addiction - but like any addict I wouldn't change it for the world. 24 years on and I am still obsessed!!!

What happens if you already have a subs to Ancestry? Is your sub extended by 6 months?

Hi,

I have just had a try but it looks like the codes are not valid on this particular product. Would have made it really, really hot if it had worked - nice try.

Best Wishes

That is what has been worrying me - I have a subscription which does not run out until April. I am thinking that if I buy it - can I then just activate the subscription in April? I assume the product could be purchased from retailer at any time now and in the future so can't see why I can't activate it when my current subscription runs out.

Just had a reply back from Ancestry...

The free 6 months membership would be added to the end of your current membership.

Yes. I also phoned Ancestry and they confirmed this. Hot deal for subscription and a good genealogy software package.

Thanks for the useful links. Rep on its way.

This is a very good price. Buy 2 of them and you bring down the cost of an ancestry worldwide sub down to £97.85 which is £18 cheaper than getting the 25% discount on subs through quidco or topcashback. Also you get the software thrown in. When one free 6 months ends, just cancel on time and then fire up the code in your other box.

If you go though either quidco or topcashback sites first, you cannot get the the page offering 50% discount off the product so there's no way to get more off.

Also beware the 24hr Christmas sale code. I have just clicked on the link to the half price product and the column on the right says you get 25% off everything for 24 hours for Christmas sale. If you add this code into the basket the price shoots back up to only 25% off. Looks like that's only for stuff at full price to start with!!
