Do these actually give you good reception?
I ask because it's hard enough to get a flawless picture through your normal aerial!

A friend of mine has one of these for a laptop, and as long as u pick up a signal, the picture quality is faultless, better than thru your normal TV aerial.

Does one need an aerial to be connected to the Laptop/TV to view the picture clearly or is the reception 'watchable' without them?

Here are two reviews on this product:

Review 1:

Fantastic bit of kit for the money, I have managed to get over 30 channels with the indoor but some are just to week,, hooking up to an external ariel got me over 60 channels. either way, 30 channels on a mini areal all for £20 a bargin."

Review 2:

"I thought I would write you a brief review
I opened the box, contents:
ARTEC DVB-T T1 digital tv tuner, silver
Aerial, black, L shaped
Remote Control
Fabric case for tuner
USB Cable
CD pdf with software
Quick Start Guide

Unit measunes 86mm x 121mm x 25mm
Has two ports only on the back, the standard circular TV aerial input, and the standard USB connection slot. Two little blue lights; one for power, the other for signal.
This is powered through the USB Port, not by an external PSU and is great for use on the move. They supply it with a micro aerial, but I have been unable to find any channels at all using that aerial. In fact the manual (in pdf on the cd) actually recommends that you do use a roof-aerial (so maybe a self-admission that its not so good on the move...!)
Software and driver installation very easy.
The only thing i will say is that repeating the scanning process is advisable; I scanned the airwaves to autodetect the channels available, and it found 21 channels (13 visual the rest radio). Ok i thought, but no ITV or C4. Scanned again, got 21 again. Thought "fine, must because of where i live". Then however i installed it on my desktop system, scanned, got 13 only (DOH), rescanned, now have 53 channels. I think there is a gamble though.
The channels i can receive include:
BBC1
BBC2
ITV (HTV West cos of where i live)
ITV2
ITV3
C4
E4 ("now available on freeview!")
Channel 5 (YAY!)
CBBC
Cbeebies
BBC Parliament
BBC "701" and BBC "702" (which i am told are interactive channels where extra stuff is put like during wimbledon???)
BBC News 24
Sky Sports News
Sky News
Sky Travel
UKTV History
Lots like Kerrang and Kiss and other music stuff
Lots like QVC and shopping stuff

The provided aerials with these type of devices only work if you get a good signal. For poor reception areas you should use a proper, external, aerial.
