Stylish reissue of a classic, first published in the 1970s: Hunter S Thompson's ether-fuelled, savage journey to the heart of the American Dream. 'We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold! And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas!' As knights of old buckled on armour of supernatural power, so Hunter S. Thompson enters Las Vegas armed with a veritable arsenal of 'heinous chemicals'. His perilous, drug-enhanced confrontations with casino operators, bartenders, police officers and assorted representatives of the Silent Majority have a hallucinatory humour and nightmare terror never before seen on the printed page.

A must read, great peice of american literature.

Funny and appauling at the same time. Gonzo writing style is pretty interesting too.
LOL...HST....This is a classic by all accounts....forget the movie....it doesnt do it justice, you need to read the book......

and his other books are a fantastic read......a great journalist and author.....shame he felt the need to leave the world early.... :-(
Bargain for a great read. My old copy is just about worn out :o)

One of my favourite books! Love Ralph Steadman's illustrations too!
Duly ordered. Have some heat.
better than the film of course!
Heated and ordered! Thanks! Watched the film again for the millionth time the other day when it was on the telly
Good book - I think the film DOES do it justice, for a movie of this book it couldn't have been better IMHO.
better than the film of course!

I found myself drawn into the film, but hold my hands up and say i was lost big time. I take it the book is easier to understand whats going on half the time.
