I beg to differ, the newer Squires are quite poor. IMHO a good starter guitar is the Yamaha Pacifica...they have the feel of a quitar twice its price, whereas the Squire does feel cheeply put together. Saying that, the Pacifica is probably twice this price so possibly not fair to compare.

Great deal mate , I bought my first electric this year after 6 months on an acoustic . I got a Vintage V100 after reading so many good things about the hardware and build quality .
From what I gathered online most people don't suggest shelling out grands on a Gibson Les Paul etc in case you don't have the patience to learn , learn on a Squier then if you keep the bug then save up and get that Tele ,Strat or LP. Heat added because if I had seen a Squier Strat copy at this price I would have definitely have picked one up they are a more than decent starting point.

I've heard the Showman range are some of the best Squiers you can get - it also has Floyd Rose locking tremolo. I'll see tomorrow when mine arrives - I also saw that the price DV247 were selling this for before was about £205.99

HAHAHA... a real Floyd Rose tremelo on its own would probably cost the same as this whole guitar!! haha

I do like the Pacifica range also. My friend at school has one that he doesn't really use anymore but it's still a good guitar. These ones however are half the price, and are selling at the price of some of the 60 quid no name brands out there. They don't feel as solid as a Pacifica but they do still sound nice and are well put together, just marginally less well put together.

I agree....its not really fair to compare them side by side because like you say, the Pacifica is twice the price..... My second guitar some 15 years ago was a Pacifica.....and ive had a few guitars since - I recently purchased a Mexican Fender Strat for £350 and ive gotta say, the Pacifica actually feels and looks just as well made and plays very similar....sometimes you dont always get what you pay for.

A user review...worth looking at before purchasing this guitar.

Just to reiterate..this is NOT a Fender Showmaster.....its a SQUIRE Showmaster!!

The Fender showmaster probably does have a Rose trem, but then it is about £600 brand new......this is the 'Squire' SHowmaster and has a standard vintage trem

Don't feel too upset about it, while Floyd Rose tremolos are very cool to play with, they are an absolute pig to handle when changing strings.

Some of the Squier ones do come with a licensed Floyd Rose but judging by the photo this does not. There are as usual lots of different models with the same or similar names.
This according to DV247 is a Squier Showmaster NLT. There are 4 different Squier Showmasters reviewed at Harmony Central.

Turnkey have the Fender version for £500 without a Floyd Rose.

Too right....i recently sold my Ibanez Jem for this very reason. You have to bring a back up to gig with incase you break a string or even if it goes out of tune cos its not a simple 2 minute job like a fixed bridge - replacing one string can take 30 minutes!!!

Like i said..'this' guitar will NO WAY have a Floyd Rose...because basically a Floyd Rose trem alone would almost set you back the full asking price for the whole guitar

Thing is....for £69 you know what youre getting, so you cant really be disappointed....well, that is unless you are expecting a USA Strat for peanuts...it aint gonna happen - this is going to be a DOG.....and only usefull IF you are a beginner and wouldnt know the difference between playing on a strung up cricket bat or playing on a PRS..... With a bit of know how and tweeking you can normally get these cheap tat guitars to sound 'ok' - especially with a bit of overdrive and delay.

It was either gonna be this or the Kramer Pacer FT211S which has gotton an average review score of 9.1 everywhere. I guess I should have waited and spent the extra £30.

Also, this is a reduction remember, it was originally over £200.

Anyone paying £200 for this would seriously need their heads looking at - it is on par with the Encore budget range of guitars - i doubt theyve ver actually sold one at £200 to be honest

Arrived today and was in a terrible state. Screw missing at the bridge and the headstock was cracked right the way through! I'm returning as faulty and getting a Kramer Pacer FT211S.

Jeez...you see, this is my gripe! - people can kind of accept say, poor quality wood...or poor quality pickups...but to have such a lack of quality control where parts are missing and/or broken/faulty, then its just totally inexcusable!!! - im sorry you had the hassle of buying one of these wretched things, hopefully the Kramer will be better.

I guess a lesson learnt really....and in many ways you can see why Pacificas are so popular...cos for a little over £150 you are not only getting decent craftmanship, but also a guarantee that a bit of quality control has taken place.
#38
Get a Vintage V100 . Not that much more than a Pacifca but streets ahead in sound , build quality and also looks . The Pacifica is a great guitar though and you wont get me dissin them , I almost bought one and also tested one or two in music shops .
#39
I was thinking about the ESP LTD M-50 as i'm going to be playing a LOAD of metal.
#40
I know this is not fair to compare this on a thread for a £70 guitar....but as far as value for money goes, my PRS Soapbar SE that i got off Ebay for £190 is by far the best money spent and IMH blows any other guitar under £500 out the water. i mean Yeah, ive got a £1500 Ibanez Jem Floral which i absolutely ADORE, but as for bang for your buck, the PRS Soapbar is a £500 guitar for a £200 price.
