Looks like a great deal, shame I have signed up to sky recently

Throttlegate alert!
#3
Is this throttled at peak times?
#4
Beware I have this & the wireless router they give you is woeful. Also they throttle your download speed massively. When you contact them they give you the same spiel about "have you checked your download speeds on BTwholesale" But apparently this not reliable and tilted in their favour. I would avoid this given the choice again.

I took this offer in June & received £70 cash back with Quidco. Heat added

No problems with my connection

I have this and don't rate it!
Hope they increase the costs to allow me out free of charge.
Back to SKY asap.
£70 cashback tempted me, sadly.

I took this deal myself and, so far, i have no complaints because it tends to fit my usage pattern nicely.

However ..

Between 6pm and midnight, most nights, it's pretty pointless me trying to download anything because the download speeds are hobbled to the point of being unusable.

It's not a deal breaker for me at all because I don't really download all that much during that time anyway, but for the price, which includes anytime calls as well, it's really a no-brainer.

Good deal if you can get it in your area :p unfortunately not available in mine so voted cold

customer service is appaling. I switched back to my old company within 2 weeks

thank you for all the comments - seemed too good

Not available in my area, but when I looked this weekend there were some pretty dismal reviews anyway. Moving away from talk talk because our service keeps dropping out in the evening amongst other problems so wouldn't have wanted to move onto another problem provider. Definately cheap though.

Last time this SSE offer was on I used it as a bargaining chip with Virgin (retentions) and they beat my package price at that time.

+1 for unreasonable throttling and being constantly told that they take no-one elses word other than BTwholesale speed checker.

Customer service is bad, they treat you like you're thick and refuse to deviate from the troubleshoot script even though there I can show them horrific speeds in the day time and ultra fast speeds at night.

Ive been with SSE for about 6 months now, I have weekend calls & unlimited downloads free & £12 a month line rental for 2 years with £50 cashback, Ive had no real issues with them internet wise & are just as good as EE or talktalk who I've had before them
#19
Another deal that appears daily - yet again "up to" rears is ugly head.

I am 5 months into the 18 months plan, only pay £23 a month, includes ultra fast unlimited Internet, inclusive calls and line rental. Although the router they send you is absolute rubbish, I've found the service very good. Never noticed any slow down or throttling, and with 3 kids who are heavy users I thought we'd struggle to stay online at times, however this has not been the case. Also I have never...ever had a bill over £23, unlike other suppliers who seem to charge a small fortune to get inclusive calls, or bigger shock if you don't have inclusive calls.
#21
I'd agree with a few of the above statements, SSE use daisy communications for their fibre, who are very reliant on traffic management. I moved from sky fibre getting solid 25mbit all day long to SSE sometimes hitting 50mbit. But rest assured I don't get anything like that at peak times, sometimes it drops into low single figures. I'm moving back to Sky.
#22
My TalkTalk deal comes to an end next month - who would you recommend moving to for Fiber?
#23
SSE are awful for fibre, so much so they have waivered all my cancellation fees and allowed me to leave. My line is capable of 68mb but they give me 10mb on average. The speed changes every other minute ranging from .5mb to 68mb. I had a constant 52mb with BT who I have returned to. AVOID SSE, they throttle, tell you it's the set up at your house causing it or BT wholesale is wrong. You get what you pay for-free fibre = woeful fibre
#24
agree go with sse if you want hassle and throttling down to 0.5mb at peak times.

I made the same mistake regret it so badly now
#26
The point about all these broadband offers now is you really do get what you pay for. The is nothing new every one uses the same cables as each other and the only way the can be cheaper is cutting costs on something. That why the want to seal people into 18 month contracts.
#27
stay away from sse i have them at peak times it is unusable you have been warned
#28
Stay away from SSE they have the lowest speeds ever
#29
apparently it's really bad

i've recently moved to SSE (this deal) ... not knowing until the engineer told me that SSE is actually Talk Talk - however, i was moving from Plusnet - the worst provider ever. so couldn't get much a worse to be honest .

This fibre is okay , if we are down stairs. we were told as we only live in a small two bed we should get good internet throughout the whole house - we get 18.98mbps download and 18.95mbps upstairs

There are lot of discussions about the positives and negatives of this particular ISP at the 'Unofficial' forum - See: http://www.discussisp.com/

You don't have to use the router they supply. You could use your Plusnet router instead, if that gave you decent speeds upstairs.
#34
Don't do it, I left thank god, you tube buffering hours to download anything, stay away
#35
weird, their site tells me their broadband is not available at my address, even though I'm on 38Mb fibre from talktall right now

surely my line must be compatible?

Have had this deal for over a year. Happy bunny.
#37
I have this and it's ok....
the speeds do vary but i get 55 Mbps download most times
and 18 upload.
At only £24.5 a month ( have caller id) £3.50 extra its a bargain, plus
got £130 topcashback so worked out @£17.28 a month.
I know many people got terrible speeds but there are many others that are happy at this price.
#38
mine flies during the day but in the evening it's too slow even to stream Netflix. I've complained all the time and agree that they just go on about doing bt wholesale speedtests then ringing them. I've sent countless screenshots from my mobile of the heavily throttled speeds but they won't pay attention. We were a week late getting switched from bt as they sent the router addressed to a random house about 6 doors up the street then had to send another. was supposed to have the first 2 months free as compensation but no sign of that. I am contacting the ombudsmen this week to leave. £130 topcashback was paid no probs tho
#39
I am often getting 0.2mbps in evening. Fine during the day.

It's bargain .. no doubt .. can someone confirm if we can watch live streaming at 2 TVs during peak time ? I believe 10mb is enough but must be continuous..
