Fight Club (book) by Chuck Palahniuk £2.99 delivered @ Play

£5 to £10 elsewhere

Every weekend, in basements and parking lots across the country, young men with good white-collar jobs and absent fathers take off their shoes and shirts and fight each other barehanded for as long as they have to. Then they go back to those jobs with blackened eyes and loosened teeth and the sense that they can handle anything. Fight Club is the invention of Tyler Durden, projectionist, waiter and dark, anarchic genius. And it's only the beginning of his plans for revenge on a world where cancer support groups have the corner on human warmth.

This is one of those rare occasions when the film is much better than the book. If you loved the film, I'd avoid this- the film sensibly changed one major subplot in the book involving Marla Singers' mother that I found offensive to the point of anti-semitism. The only thing that i got out of it was that it made me realise how clever the film really is.

I read in an interview with Chuck Palahniuk years and years ago that he actually prefers the ending of the movie.

I cant concur with wonkypops. I think the book is brilliant too. Heat from me for this deal.

read this last week, really enjoyed it! Very good writing style!

Thought the rule was we don't talk about this.

decent book, but from what i can recall it's rather short.

won't be buying it though, since i got a copy of it free with empire or total film way back when :)

Having read this book I was suprised how near identical it was to the film, sometimes you get various deviations but this was more or less a carbon copy.
Still enjoyed reading it though...cheaper to get it from the library mind :)

Was just going to mention it is nearly identical to the movie. Not worth reading if you have seen the movie and if you haven't seen it then watch it first anyway, it's a masterpiece of the modern era

A lot of Chucks writing is off the wall and close to the bone, read his books expecting to be offended and shocked, that is part of the enjoyment, google for a story called GUTS by Chuck, you can read the whole thing online

Brilliant author and a brilliant book but if you put all his books in order or greatness this would be down near the bottom, still great but he has done much better!

I also got mine free with Empire magazine all those years ago which started me down the road of reading everything the man ever writes! :-D

Re the comments about Marla's mother, is that one of the extras on the DVD?

I've never felt sicker while reading anything.

uhh Guys

What's the first rule of Fight Club.
#16
the book is rubbish, the film is much better as it does not give it away what is going on so early.....

I have to concur with some of the other posters here - this is one of those rare occassions where the film improves on the book. Still not a bad read but if you're a big fan of the film you might be slightly disappointed.
