This is a deal for all you folks who took up the Shure SE110 £24.99 offer.
I bought this little amp a couple of months back after reading about it online. I'm still amazed at the volume boost and bass improvement it gives when listening through my Shure E2C's.

It's available in white or black and comes with a 3.5mm interconnect to hook it up to your mp3 player of choice. It takes 1 AAA battery and is pretty small. Not much bigger than the battery itself.

Audiophiles may scoff and dismiss it as 'cheap chinese junk' but for £4.62 ($8.50) delivered, I seriously doubt you'll get more bang for your buck. Have a shifty at some of the forum comments and reviews about it online. It's building a bit of a cult following.

Here's a good starting point if you're interested:

I've linked to the white model on DealExtreme, a quick search for 'fiio' will show the black one too, which is the same price.

Just to clarify, the iPod Nano in the picture isn't included with the £4.62 amp.........

I posted that picture to show the size of the amp better.

Looks good. It has got good reviews also. I take it, it can be used with any earphone?
Direct link minus referral here. Looks tempting since reviews all over are good

Bargain. Ordered.

My ipod is incredibly quiet compared to my old walkman.

Any earphones with 3.5mm jack plug, or earphones with an adaptor to make the jack 3.5mm.

What does 'Direct link minus referral' mean?
#6
It means you stole this deal and didn't reference the theft. Deal Extreme should get the credit for this one.

Stealing is not cool bro. It's for the other kind.

Whoa, easy tiger, I'm sure Bogroll didnt intent to steal any credit. . . . I think you're being way too harsh there. . .

Thing is, DealExtreme is the retailer.......

It's like saying "why did you post that on HUKD? Tesco should get the credit for that one"

I think he might be 'special'.

sod that...is this any good..will it work with my sennheiser mx 70 (green ones with band that goes behind ur head) cos in gym ipod is very quiet...will this make ipod louder? thanks
#12
This will work with any headphones which have a 3.5mm jack (size of jack on an iPod).

There's no volume control, it's just plug and play. There's a small red LED which comes on when you plug your earphones in. To switch it off, all you do is unplug your earphones.

It gives a significant volume boost with better, smoother bass. It doesn't double your volume, but offers a significant increase. I have my player volume far lower when listening with the amp.

If you're using it in the gym you might want to get some sticky-backed velcro or some other solution to hold it to your iPod as it goes in-line with the headphones, as shown in the second pic I posted.

I use one of these for boosting volume on my "helmet speakers" when riding the motorbike. I've tried it with my Shure E2C earphones, but with the excess cable/components is a bit cumbersome when at the gym.
Good value for a fiver.

has anyone ordered this? i'm thinking of getting one, i'm using cx300, do you guys think its worth getting?
#20
Cool - took a gamble on this for my se110's Heat added
#21
So cheap, may as well. Heat added.

So this should work with portable speakers you hook into your music player (ipod, minidisc, cd)? When I do floor exercises at home, I like to have my player on the floor with me so I can flip through songs, and hook it up to my portable speakers -- which sometimes keep the music very soft.

We should find you a ho deal for a videocamera too:roll:

Had to be done.

Goodness. I can't think of a single bit of portable audio kit I have that isn't capable of blowing one's ears out of its own amplifier's accord, let alone without an external amplifier added on...

Anyone considering using this with canal-insert earphones, such as the SE110 or E2c, should consider the damage it could so easily cause to their hearing. Of course, it might well be useful for driving high impedance or insensitive headphones -- but those just wanting it to blast their usual iPod or Shure earphones louder should exercise caution in its use.

I've ordered another as black is now available. Read what others are saying about it online, I posted a link to a mini review.

If you'd like a bit more volume without having to overwork your mp3 player's built-in amp circuit (not double or anything) and a bit more bass, then this may be for you.

Not sure how it'd work out with portable speakers. I plugged it into a cheap little folding pair that I took on holiday and they couldn't take the increased bass. It's great with my earphones/headphones though.

Did it? *Really*?

Answering the question, I don't think this battery powered amp will help too much with portable speakers since they're more power hungry than headphones. You're probably better off with some active (mains powered) speakers Skibster.

As for the original deal, this gizmo seems quite nifty so have some rep/heat Bogroll and keep them deals coming.

Agreed. It's not so much about the volume increase though (it's not massive), I find the sound a lot warmer and more appealing and can have my player's amp working less to enjoy a bit longer listening time between recharges.

Got one a few months ago, all in all pretty good, but doesn't like too much bass
#36
I was incredibly disappointed with the low volume output of the iPod Classic (relative to my previous jukebox) and started looking at all manner of amps. Then I bought the Shure 530s which are so sensitive they blow your head off without one :)
#37
sweet, might order both the black and white versions.

Received my 2nd one the other day as I needed another to keep with my 2nd mp3 player. There's no way I could listen unamped now. I'm feeling adventurous and might even build a Cmoy soon!
