Went in my lunch hour to my local one and allthat was left on the shelf was an empty case which used to stock the oil.

The SEL was still priced at the original price but I would hazard to guess that it had been reduced to clear.

By the way it was Docklands branch of Asda that I went to.

None at Derby (Spondon) branch :-(
Good find though

I fear this is the direction the site is taking recently. People have a tendency to jump down your throat if you dare suggest a deal isn't quite a supernova, but if you want to vote hot on 10p tomatoes that were out of stock three weeks ago, no-one bats an eyelid.

Ultimately, its self-destructive as the site becomes redundant. Shame, as it was once very useful.

You're spot on, its a shame.

Went to Hatfield on my way home from work. They had about 20 bottles of the normal olive oil left, marked on the shelf reduced to 98p. To be honest, this isn't the best type of olive oil and it is worth about 98p max anyway.

The best oil is extra virgin. Normal olive oil is the dredges left at the end of pressing.

Philipo Berio is extremely yellow in colour.

Still normal price in my asda

While your comments about the difference between Olive Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil might be fair enough, I think you get a bit confused in what you are saying on a couple of points.

1. Can you direct us to a cheaper source for 500ml of ordinary Olive Oil. You say 98p is about the right price, so I'd like to know where you get it at this price.

2. Are you saying that Filippo Berio is not a good make of Olive Oil? If so, I'd be happy to hear of a similarly priced brand that you think is superior. In my opinion, Filippo Berio is the best affordable Olive Oil on the supermarket shelves and I use the stuff all the time, so by all means enlighten me.

3. The Filippo Berio Light and Mild Olive Oil is yellow in colour. I'm not quite sure why this is significant, but in any case, Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil is not at all yellow in colour and as I've already said, is the best affordable Olive Oil you can buy.

Lidl sell it £1 for 500ml & I think theirs is extra virgin.

Also it states on the Philipo bottle that it is suitable for frying/cooking etc. It does not state that it is ideal for raw consumption ie salads hence my deduction that this is not pure oil.

I went to Acton Asda today & the oil was not on offer, it came up full price on the till (500ml + 50% extra free) at £2.62. Expiry date on the bottle was August 2008.
