In Final Fantasy VII youll explore a beautiful fantasy world that is slowly succumbing to the iron-fist rule of the ruthless Shinra, Inc conglomerate. Operating from Midgar, the neon-drenched city built on a giant elevated plate to separate it from the poverty-stricken slums, the evil corporation uses giant Mako Reactors to gain power by draining the life force from the land, thus giving it a stranglehold over the planets natural resources.

#3
*random Battle*
#4
Over-rated game IMO.
#5
£12.99 for a PSOne game. Is it really a bargain?
#6
Best game to ever grace the Playstation
#7
people who have never played this cannot call themselves a gamer. a genuine work of art, and a piece of history.

those who say it's overrated probably say the same of all era and genre-defining works of art, probably think it makes them look cool...
#8
Great memories :)

...and bad ones. Remember getting to the baddie at the end in the crater (was it Sepiroth or something like that) and then accidentally wiping my memory card :( All those hours wasted, I couldn't bring myself to play it again.

Agreed. Why oh why can't they remake it for the Xbox 360.
#10
Easily the most time I've ever spent on any one game. Satisfying on SO many levels and if you have a PS1 or PS2 it is WELL worth £12, even for a very old title.
#11
OMG! This game was amazin! Spent over 100 great hrs of my life on it. Recently paid £25 4 it & started all over again. What a game!
#12
Definately reccomend buying the strategy guide 2.
#13
I had a PS1 but never played this

I now feel somewhat empty and ashamed

I too played this for many happy hours and loved it but twas on pc. Later I played it on PS1 and was disappointed by the graphics compared to the PC version (predictable I spose).

Not sure if this is a bargain given the game is so old but superb game...

ooh yeah, make it for xbla, redo the graphics for HD and include achievements, it would be AWESOME!!!!

although I think they're limited to 150Mb for xbla games, the original was 3 cds, so say 2 gig in size.
Even with compression etc I think it would weigh in at well over 150Mb.
Pity :x
#17
It was never a patch on Shining Force 3 anyway.
#18
I did buy it again a few years ago but shortly after starting decided it was best not to tarnish such fond memories. Along with Mario Kart (Snes) and Goldeneye this is one of my top 3 games of all time.
#19
My favourite game ever.

This is actually a decent price, as i went to play thi sgain recently and couldn't find my original copy anywhere and i looked at ebay it it was going for £20+ quid.

So i just got the PC version which wouldn't run on my machine, but fortunately it runs on my laptop.

Best Game, Ever. If you haven't played this and like RPG's your really missing out. If you don't like RPG's (I'm not a fan of them but love FF7) you'll also be missing out if you don't get this! In otherwords, buy this now!

Eh? Dont you mean the PS3?

Thats like saying why dont they remake Halo on the PS3...lol
#22
The best game EVER. Nuff said.

RED 13, The death of aries, TIFFA, BARRET, ETC ETC Oh the memories! :-D
#23
If any game was worth rebuying an old system for, then this is the Playstation's. A gaming experience I shall never forget and one that shall never be beaten, I would think.
#24
So who managed to beat the ultimate weapons then

Knights of the round was awesome

The whole idea of materia was a stoke of genius...I have never enjoyed a FF game as much as this one...best game ever!!
#25
and yep @ Vistrix. Seeing as Square are basically in Sony's pockets and that the FF series from 7 to 12 was for Sony only, I don't think we'll ever see them out on any other platform. Which is a shame, but like I said... just get a second hand PS1 or 2 and have a blast! They're cheap enough these days!
#26
Spent so many hours on this game. Re,member the Ruby or was it Purple monster in the ocean? Finally managed to kill it after finding KOTR. Had to breed my Golden Chocobo first! classic.
#27
Wasn't it Emerald Weapon in the ocean and Ruby Weapon in the desert?

Don't cast KOTR on the Ruby Weapon because he responds with Ultima and all but wipes out your team in one round.

Best game ever.

However, I'm also of the school of thought that says such fond memories are best left alone, at least until the inevitable(?) HD remake.

Or you could go rent a movie and press a every 5 seconds while watching it.

It's this game only much more fun.

For those who still want to play it, here's a typical game.

I'd agree... but after putting it in my PS2 last year for another retro bash, I was just as delighted as the first time I had played it... an HD rehash would be good... but I would be afraid it might tarnish it in a way... half the joy was in the cutesy block graphics in a weird way.

And therein lies ignorance... the grinding serves a purpose, by building up your levels to enable you to effectively fight the battles that are important to the game. Plus, if you'd bothered to make it that far (and it's not that far at all) you get a piece of materia that enables you to avoid random battles on the map altogether.

random battles are fine, I hope they dont remove them in the inevitable remake

If you consider sitting there and pressing A for 3 hours just to grind as fun then good for you. Don't get angsty because someone disagrees. Grinding is an excuse for lack of gameplay.

The personal insult was not called for.
#33
This is playable on a PSP via PS3->PSP remote play too and it works an absolute treat!

Also, every RPG out there relies on random battles as a game mechanic. They simply don't work otherwise. Oblivion, KOTOR, every Final Fantasy, Skies of Arcadia, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate. Every one of them requires you to have fights and use powers against enemies / creatures that are not fundamental to the main storyline. Instead of bitching about how **** you think FF7 is you should just state that you don't like RPGs.

its alot more complicated than that kinda like a maths game

or you might need to find a specific enemies and use "enemy skill" to get something off him or steal a particular item as well as the whole experience thing which allowed you to use better limit breaks and advance your materia, it wasnt as you make it out to be,

if you didnt like this style of gameplay then fair dues but you exaggerate I enjoyed the battles personally as did many others otherwise the game would not have been so successful
#35
Never really played this game myself but I know some of the originals are selling for quite a bit on Ebay, platinum price is about right.
#36
When I worked in games retail I lost count of the number of copies of FFVII we binned. For some reason it was the one title everyone seemed to scratch beyond belief (and repair).
#37
:geek: Alert.
#38
Will this run on a 60gb ps3 ?
#39
I don't think so no... PS1 compatibility, I am pretty sure, was not even considered as a PS3 necessity... in fact, I don't think PS2 games even play on PS3 do they?

And dudley, there was no personal insult intended there... but your post was the basic description of ignorant. It didn't qualify as a sound opinion of the game and suggested that you played it for five minutes and got bored, not realising all the extra detail or the reasoning behind the random battles... to the point where you even described it as simply pressing A a lot. The fights required a lot more than that most of the time, giving the player the chance to hone battle tactics and materia balance for appropriate enemy classes.
