A couple of weeks back I was astonished to see a brand new FINAL FANTASY VIII on come up via find-DVD on Powerplay Direct. Ordered it expecting it to be cancelled but sure enough it arrived.

These are rare and virtually impossible to find new so imagine my surprise when it not only returned to stock again but also showed FFVII as well :-)

Get 'em while you can.

Also, Quidco at 4% and a voucher code for a further 2% off is - PP-02-DISCOUNT

Yep, my FFVIII was sealed.

The only annoyance was that the case was cracked in the post. But I really couldn't care less as eBay prices for FFVIII used to be absurd.

I didn't think they'd be able to get another one so didn't complain

why is this so good? or does Final Fantasy still demand high prices?
#4
its a great game and yes it is more expensive on flebay
#5
Just noticed that Amazon.co.uk have both in stock for £14.99 too.

I wonder where they're getting them?!

Both were deleted about 2 years ago.

They used to fetch absurd prices on eBay ... but the onset of custom firmware on the PSP meant people ditched their PS1 game discs so there was a flux of old scratched discs on eBay.

These are new and sealed which is just daft at the price Powerplay have them at.

Scissorhands: Is this version the one with the black discs? Great find!
#8
I remember my son being mad on FF and bought loads of them for his PS1 - think they're stuck in the back of the wardrobe now!
#9
these arnt rare at all the platinum version was made in massive numbers recently you can easily pick up the platinum version in gamestation around 15 quid we had over 15 copies when i worked there but people thought they were far too overpriced for even a game thats so good. its the original version you will be hard pushed to find
#10
Do these games work on a PS3? I'm tempted to replay FFVII?
#11
Thanks to OP, now I only need to find where to get a cheap FF9.
#12
Yes, the original version goes for around £15 to £20 but this is the platinum version as someone stated before, so this is an average price.

Black discs, yeah.

But I can only speak for FFVIII ... not got FFVII through yet.

You can play it on your psp now, probably the best game for the psp too

JRPGs... interesting enough, but one big spikey hair guy pounding some bigger thing whilst a cute girl cast heal every turn (whilst everyone else does a little dance whilst waiting for a turn) does not make an involving enough combat system for me to go back to FFVII (or to ever want to invest into FFVIII)

lol nice im glad im not the only Final Fantasy VII / VIII nut!
#18
Not that RARE considering it the Platinum version, infact this price seem expensive for a very old platinum version game:x
#19
Now showing st £15.99
#20
I think it's expired now, and the price for FF7 increased to 15.99.
#21
this game was unbelievably good,

by far the best FF out of them all
#22
There is an emulator for the PC which can play PS1 games. The emulator is called ePSXe and it works really well as I still play Tekken3 & Doom - I was never a fan of FF
#23
Didn't realise there was demand for this, I bought this when it came out, played it once and haven't touched it since, worth putting on eBay?
#24
I have FF7 and 8 for PC, play them on my laptop, its awesome :)
#25
Damn....think I chucked my copies of FF7 & 8 out when I moved house last year...and they were in mint condition.
#26
FFVII was one of the very best games I've ever played. And this is from someone who had never previously been into that style of game. I spent a very long time playing it, completed it a couple of times, sold my copy and then regretted it ever since.

I was lucky enough to get a mint copy of the pre-platinum version from a car boot sale for a fiver about a year back, but I would recommend the game to anyone, even at £15.99. Especially given the fact that tripe like 'Kane and Lynch' and 'Assassins Creed' are priced well above this and considered to be 'bargains'.

Basically, if you value gameplay over graphics, (which is surely the reason why you should play games), this is a very worthwhile purchase - despite the fact 'its a PS1 game'!

Couldnt agree more - It was my first RPG too when I was around 7- played it solid for a few years (seriously!) and im an absolute ace at it. I think its shaped my personality a lot aswell, FF7 influenced my life! haha

Awesome

Ace games. 7, 8 and 9 were excellent. I still have FF8 somewhere, but a while ago, sold 7,8 and 9 together with official guides for each as a job lot and got something close to £90. Worth putting on eBay if you won't play them again.
#29
You can play it on your PSP? how how!
I know there was talk of releasing on the PSStore at some point but i've never seen it?
#30
Oh man FF7 was amazing. Such great chacrter desing and story line. Still up there in my all time favourites ever.
Am also very curious about how its possible to play these on a PSP.
#31
Good Find! Probably the best storyline of the entire series. I have the original so I won't be needing this. I wonder if it was ebay shops buying them up again...

Probably with a firmware flash/hack!

bought mine from powerplay ages ago. they were great.

heat added...

they seem to have upped the price though
#34
Truly an awesome game - In fact the best game I have ever played
#35
I agree, this is the best game i have ever played. Tried playing it through again but its the first time u play thats the best.

As pointed out not the original black disc version but non the less a great find and if you haven't played this you can never be considered a true gamer.
