Most people I know always prefer other titles in the series to this one, but for me the story of 10 resonated much more with me.

I flipflop between IX and X as my fave. Then sometimes VI. XV was great as well although it had massive plot holes that need fixed with patches.

I do hope the plot gets fixed

Should I wait to play XV and wait for the patches?

I absolutely loved this game on the PS2. Though I could never get the hang of the jecht shot or blitzball. Hopefully i'll have better luck on PC. Decent port?

I hated that Blitzball but it's actually not too difficult once you recruit the good players,

They ruined the facial animations in the had version, ps2 is superior as a result.

Haven't tried this , but the only thing stopping me buying this was the lightning strikes which I never did when it came out (I payed the step son lol) .
I was looking online and found this

As I said I haven't tried it but worth a go unless you like the suffering of lightning avoidance

They didn't ruin it, they just couldn't emulate the PS2 emotion chip. So it was just left out. But yes because of this the ps2 version is superior. Regardless it's still a beautiful game, it's not ruined in that regard.

That beautiful PS2 emotion chip, the reason that such beautiful things as this exist today:

I've played through the game a bunch of times, the lightning never held me back, or more accurately, not always doing the lightning everytime never stopped me from each playthough :P

I know , but I am a bit OCD when it comes to doing everything on old (turn based) ff games . On the ps2 I even deleted all the +1s on the sphere grid and replaced them with +3s to make all characters 250 in every stat . But I could never bring myself to spend hours avoiding the lightning and that is the main thing that stopped me buying this on the pc

I always wanted to max out the sphere grid but never got round to doing it, the lightning took less time to get the hang of then that though :P
