Final Fantasy XIII

Introducing unique worlds, memorable characters and extraordinary stories with every new instalment, the Final Fantasy series has continuously reinvented itself over the last two decades, shipping over 85 million copies worldwide in the process. The series is defined by constant evolution, with each release delivering nothing less than the finest creative vision, graphical quality and gameplay system of its generation. Needless to say, Final Fantasy XIII is no exception.

In Final Fantasy XIII, players will embark on an awe-inspiring journey through the floating cityworld of Cocoon and the savage lowerworld of Pulse, encountering a diverse band of would-be allies along the way. With seamless transitions between real-time gameplay and in-game cinematics, and an evolved Active Time Battle system offering a perfect harmony of spectacular action and strategy, this is an adventure unlike any other. Do you have the courage to face your destiny?

A New Fantasy Begins: Embark on an adventure beyond your wildest dreams - packed with breathtaking environments to explore, unique allies to befriend, and awe-inspiring enemies to conquer.

An Audio-Visual Benchmark: Harnessing the power of The Crystal Tools graphics engine, Final Fantasy XIII pushes the boundaries of high-definition cinematic presentation, sound and gameplay.

A Unity of Speed and Strategy: The familiar Active Time Battle system has evolved, granting players the freedom to execute numerous commands in a single turn in real-time. Now players can enjoy all the strategy and flexibility of a turn-based system, along with the visceral thrill of an action game.

Turn the Tide of Battle with Paradigms: A brand-new game mechanic known as the Paradigm System enables players to assign roles to their party members at any time during battle. By switching between a variety of roles - including Commando and Medic - players can respond instantly to the needs of an ever-changing battlefield, adapting their strategy to ensure victory.

Unleash Devastation with Enhanced Summoning: Introducing Gestalt Mode: an exhilarating take on Final Fantasy's trademark summon system that elevates the action to a whole new level. In Gestalt Mode, the player uses simple button commands to unleash the combined might of the characters and their transformed Eidolons, inflicting massive damage to any who stand in their way.

Lose Yourself in the Drama: An immersive storyline draws the player ever closer to a cast of intriguing characters. Will they have the strength to face their fate, or are they doomed to destroy everything they love?

Erm. It was HUGE! It sold over one million copies in ONE DAY! And has sold about 2 million there alone.

Yeah I've seen that now. Never came up when the deal match was done. Sorry.

We'll allow this one as the earlier thread only mentions PS3 & not Xbox360

Not sure why this has just popped up on the front page, but I've gone for this pre-order as of yesterday. I'm too worried i'll not find it sub £40 if I hold out for release day! Plus I don't want to have to trek all the way to Asda or similar!

Reviews were cock is probably what they meant.

It's not a Final Fantasy game. No shops, no towns, linear game-play.

Sod that. That's not what FF is all about. I waited five years for this and cancelled my pre-order last month as it's just not the game I want. They seem think slinging Final Fantasy on any old game they've got sitting in the cupboard will make us buy it.

Reviews haven't been 'cock'. They've been very mixed.

As for linear and no towns. I'm not bothered. FFX was linear, and what do you need towns for anyway?
I'm going to hold out til I play it to start judging.

There are still shops in game, each of which is very unique, has its own music and such. There aren't any populated towns, true, but since when does a town make final fantasy good, I've always played final fantasy for:
1) awesome battle system
2) awesome story
3) awesome graphics
how can there not being any towns to visit put you off buying a game

I don't see why people complain at the linear gameplay (that's only in the first half of the game) Anyone who has played Final Fantasy 7 will be used to it, the first section of Final Fantasy 7 (supposedly one of the greatest in the series) has you stuck in midgar for hours before you get to see the world map. This game looks fantastic, gamesradar has an excellent review on it.
This is a cracking price for a cracking game!

only problem I see, has anyone else seen the comparison shots between 360 and PS3, especially the pre rendered parts look terrible on 360, still though, fantastic game and shouldn't be missed because of a poor port, if you only have a 360, you owe it to yourself to buy it, especially at this price!!!

Just make sure you note, the linearity of this game is ONLY the first half of the game! it opens up a lot more later on!
BUY THIS GAME PEOPLE!!!

Have any supermarkets gave out prices yet?

Just been playing this last night on 360. Awful. Walk a bit. Wait for a bar to charge. Press X. Rinse and repeat. Looks great. Plays like streets of rage. Poop.
#20
Actually the linearity of the game ends after the first few sections, and it becomes much more open and varied.

People dismissing the game after playing it for just 5 hours, or not even playing it at all, are just idiots that follow whatever the latest review says. Play it for yourself, spend time with it, Final Fantasy games always take a while to get going, it's just a case of this one taking even longer than usual.

Squeenix are taking the series in a different direction, a much better direction. But obviously a lot of the series fanboys are going to be angry, because they want to be playing the same re-hash of the generic RPG formula for the next 30 years. I'm a huge, and I mean huge, FF fan, and I'm happy to see that the series is changing. It's developing, evolving. This entry has got the best graphics ever seen in an RPG, the best cinematics, the best cast of characters for a long time, and one of the best battle systems the series has produced.

So people can go ahead and slate it all they want, but just remember: Towns don't make Final Fantasy games. Interesting characters, evocative storylines, immersive gameplay, and great battle systems make Final Fantasy games. And XIII ticks all those boxes.

I'm gutted that the 360 version has been made graphically inferior to the PS3 version but oh well...voted hot!

It's what all ps3 users have put up with for ages with shoddy ports, usually ps3 gets the raw deal with multiplatform games, thats one of the benefits of having both consoles, get the better version:thumbsup:

to be honest though the differences are usually so minor it does not affect the game at all, its only fan boys who get off staring at still pictures for hours playing spot the difference.

regards to final fantasy, yes there is a difference in the resolution etc... but it still looks great in motion when your not looking to pick holes, so ps3 or 360 it will still be excellent if you like this series:thumbsup:

This franchise gets worse with every release its so childish and purile the actual gameplay feels 10 years old and the rest. Really obsolete compared to the best RPGs comming out now like Fallout. When it comes to gameplay the japs simply cannot innovate or come up with any new fresh ideas that appeal to the western market - unless its western studios like Naughty Dog that they buy out or effectively take control over.

Jap games simply do no appeal to mass market adult western gammers which is the main market for 360 and ps3, they just dont get it.

Its a great price though so I vote hot. I wont be buying it though. It will still sell millions especially in Japan where they think its the best thing since sliced bread.

I'm currently at 7 hours and still just walking and pressing the X button with the odd potion. Allegedly it's 30 hours gameplay to get to a point where you can actually choose your character and customise your teams. I understand that it needs some sort of commitment but you shouldn't have to 'get through the sludge' to get to the game you want 30 hours in.

The best games in my eyes are engaging from the start and I think CEX will have a lot of copies of this in a few weeks.....
#25
I will be very interested to see how this sells in the States and UK which combined make up 40% + of the worldwide video games market....

Times have moved on the bar has been raised in terms of RPG I just look at this and its so far behind the likes of Fallout, Oblivion, ME 2 IMO for adult western gammers anyway.

But it only opens up after 30 hours of gameplay...!! 30 hours?!

These people who complain about linear gameplay, and not great reviews, etc, etc dont have a clue about what Final Fantasy is about. Look at Final Fantasy 7 or 10. Both linear but considered some of the best games ever made. The people who criticise these games dont understand that the this franchise dose have mostly linear gameplay. However thats not a bad thing - look at Halo or COD the most linear games you will ever play. They are just used to the sh*** sandbox games like fallout 3 and all the other rubbish the western side of the world pump into gaming. The reason i love any Final Fantasy is for the battle system, the story and the amazing cut scenes - non of which fallout, oblivion, etc have. So i wish people would just shut the f*** up when complaining about this - if you dont like it dont buy it.
Why do you have to listen to reviews anyway? Dont you have your own opinion?

It does not mean its rubbish though. Just wait till you all try it and get your own opinions of the game. Im sick of hearing it.

Finally ordered! I can't wait...
And don't trust these reviews, some **** like this always happens days before release of a game. Don't let deceptive reviews hold you back from playing a great game.

Have you even played FF7? Linear? lol. The only linear FF we've had until now was X, and it was my least favourite in the series. I like to explore and that's why XII was my favourite since VII. No good having a great story if the gameplay is ****. Still, I'll be giving XIII a try. I might enjoy the last 1/4 when it opens up.

Lovely. Shopto just lost a sale, and who knows how many more. Need to find somewhere else now that will actually deliver to where I want it.
