Correct me if I'm wrong but if you already own Final Fantasy XIV and you buy Stormblood you also get Heavensword? I'm just trying to figure out what's the cheapest way to get all the content if you already own the base game. I don't play this personally but I have friends who play and maybe I will use free 30 days game time

Yes, Heavensword is included with Stormblood.

Anyone know if I got this to try... would I be able to use the 30 days included game time without putting in payment details/credit card first? Cheers.

If you just want to try the game first, try the free trial, I am not sure if you need payment details for that, but as it is not a time limited trial but limited on maximum level and stuff I believe then you may not need payment details. http://freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/gb/

I got a question for this actually. if you play the trial and decide to pay, do you just pay the monthly fee or do you have to buy the game first?

This has all changed, from Steam:

In the updated Free Trial version of the FINAL FANTASY XIV, you’ll now be able to play as your favorite FINAL FANTASY class up to level 35.
Form a party and adventure with a multitude of players from across the globe.
Forge friendships, mount chocobos, and board airships as you and your companions create your own unique stories in Eorzea.
Set out alone or enlist the aid of friends as you undertake epic quests, battle familiar FINAL FANTASY monsters, and acquire unique abilities and equipment.
All the classic elements from the series that you have come to know and love are waiting!

And from the Official Final Fantasy XIV Website, announcing the removal of the 14 day restriction on the free trial:

We are pleased to announce that the 14-day limitation on the Free Trial has been removed and the adventure can continue for as long as you want!

So basically there are limits to the free trial, but time is no longer one of them.

This I do not know, I bought the game on release and never had a free trial. I assume you have to buy the game first to upgrade from the free trial limitations and then subscribe. If not then you would definitely be limited to the base game only, no Heavensward or Stormblood.
