PC World will be knocking another 50% of all items left in their 'Massive Stock Clearance' this coming Thursday (29th January). Basically, anything with a big red sale sticker, that has been on sale since the 23/12/08 (when the sale went live), will be discounted manually by 50% at the till.

The current Buy One Get One Free deal will end on this date, so if there is anything you've got your eye on, work out if it's cheaper to get them now or when the 50% off deal starts.

There is still lots of clearance stock throughout the country, especially software and console games.

If they take the BOGOF offer off, it'll be the same as giving the 'new' 50% off if you then buy 2 - pretty pointless!!

It is if you buy two thing at the same price, but lets say you bought 1 thing at £40 and another at £10. At the moment you'd only save £10 by getting the cheapest item free, but on Tuesday, you'd get 50% off both, a saving of £25. So it really depends on what you're buying.

most of their 'sale'/defective stock was full price anyway . .

will check it out tho, good heads up

Are u sure everything will be half price? If a Geforce 8800GTS selling 150, will it be 75 then?

If it has a big red sale sticker on it then yes.

Could have done with knowing this yesterday, lol; saying that, the bits I picked up would probably have been sold by the time I got there on Tuesday if I had waited. Can I ask how you know about this and if it will definitely be nationwide?

Cheers,

I went to two PC World stores between 07:30 and 09:00 on Boxing Day where they had
nothing, absolutely nothing of any value on sale. There was stuff on the shelf behind the counter which had been mysteriously reserved (well played staff) but nothing for punters. I doubt there will be anything now, never mind a video card like that.

Please, don't get your hopes up.

I used to work for PCW until i was asked to leave for fraud but basically PCW sales suck.

Wheneva there is a sale or products get reduced, very rarely did it eva make it out onto the shelves as the staff always get it first.

PCW prices were never good and thats why the system got abused so that we got wot we wanted at better prices.
#11
Fraud? what on earth did you do ?

So lets get this clear, you received the Pieces Of S*** for final reductions yesteday :-D:-D

Actually I did well this evening, took an open boxed (everything mint inside, just missing the USB cable) Creative Xmod to the tills from the clearance table, had a £19.98 price sticker on it, questioned what it should be marked down to, scanned at an unbelievable £2.97...could hardly believe my luck!

Yep, PC World need to sell through all of their clearance stock ASAP to free up warehouse space and reduce their stock holding. I heard that they've already wiped over 8000 SKU's off the system from selling through old stock in the sale.

I know that the store I work at still has a substantial amount of clearance stock still left (mostly software and stationary), so there's definitely some bargains to be had.

We were given a few weeks notice before the sale began originally to find all the clearance stock, take it off display and into the warehouse, sticker it up with sale prices and wait until the 23rd December to re-merchandise it all on the shop floor. As you can imagine the weeks leading up to Christmas isn't the best time to go on a treasure hunt around the store, what with massive Xmas deliveries, so some of the items on the list weren't found until things got a bit quieter. So if you went into store just after Christmas, there's probably more stuff out there that you didn't see the first time round, so it might be worth popping in for a look.

I know you meant Point Of Sale lol...just making a joke from it as I found little on the clearance table other than still overpriced, or obsolete cables, a Fuji S520 camera that was more expensive as ex display than brand new elsewhere!....but hey, the cat loves the RC Mini Cooper radio control car I picked up for £2, and I am loving the sound of the bargainous Creative Xmod through the laptop that was crazily £2.97

Yeah I know what you mean, it can be pretty hit and miss with the clearance stuff, most of the really good stuff gets snapped up by staff before it hits the shop floor. We've had HP wireless printers for 97p before.

I have been trying to find a few things at DECENT prices here, result: fail after fail. I end up ordering online in other stores. That's my experience here. Good luck to you guys though, but wanted to let you know so you don't keep your hopes too high.

well that should have been discounted automatically, i can see some of the lazy staff forgetting or not bothering, and it could be a bit hot issue asking them to, or discuss a manual discount with them lol
#20
Couldn't see any decent bargains in either PC World or Currys yesterday

Same for me.

I can pretty much guarantee that if I go to the store on tuesday morning and ask for half price on the stickered stuff, they'll just laugh and say I must be a sucker for believing what i've read here.,

thanks for the heads up! :)

Well done mate, thanks for keeping us updated. Bring on Tuesday!!! Oh and have some rep :)
#26
would be interested to know if / when anyone sees this in-store.

OK guys, little bit of a update. Turns out that the 50% reduction is coming, but not this Tuesday. After finding out a bit more and actually getting a look at the POS, it only states that the products have been on sale for 28 days before the 23/12/08 at a price 40% higher than the sale price.

I misread this as it saying that the 50% reduction applied to item on sale since the 23/12/08 for 28 days (which works out as this Tuesday).

I'll update you guys with a date as to when it is actually going live as soon as I get news.

How far in advance do you normally receive POS? It's my experience that shops usually get POS only a day or 2 in advance of the event, or even after it's started, and there's usually an indication with the material when it needs to go on display. Given that you say this was received on 16 January, which is when I think the website was offline over 24 hours, are you sure this isn't already meant to be on?

Will the 50% be automatically discounted by the till system, or is it down to the cashier to do it manually? If it's the latter, then maybe we should be asking for it now. (Sorry to be cynical, but that's down to recent visits to PCWorld stores where communication in these matters seems to be poor. I went to one PCWorld store a week after the BOGOF promo had started, and the staff wouldn't honour it (as POS hadn't been put out yet), and I went to another store the same day, to be told the BOGOF offer had FINISHED before Christmas! I've also seen software in one store with the red sticker on, whilst at another store the same software was still on display at full price without a red sticker.)

We receive a 'POS Pack' every week containing all the POS we need for that weeks changes (new special offers etc). The 50% off POS was in last weeks pack. The products that are in the sale are still scanning at the sticker price at the tills, so the 50% offer isn't live just yet. We will usually receive some kind of communication on the company Intranet as to when to these things are to go live. I'll update the thread as soon as we hear any news.
#35
the PC world i went to has the BOGOF on all things piced £9.97 or under and not on the higher priced reduced stock
#36
The staff at different stores vary so much it annoying! I have asked them to check many prices at the till for bargains as they were not reduced with the red stickers.

Another problem is that they have games in my local store @ 9.97 which are in the sale but not red stickered so they wont be apart of this deal!!

How are they supposed to shift all the old stock when 4.97 games are still priced at 28.99?!

Rant over!

Checked my local store tonight, not looking as hopeful as I thought.
#37
Once again, trying to get stuff here at decent prices is a fail after fail for me :x

When is the supposed to start? Next Sat? (31st)

Just to let you guys know, the 50% extra off sale goes live this Thursday. All the instructions for this appeared on the Intranet tonight (Tuesday 27th).

Basically anything with a red sale ticket gets discounted MANUALLY by 50% at the till, so be sure to make sure you get the discount. There will be POS on the shop-floor (near the clearance stock), at the tills and on the outside of the store.

The BOGOF deal that is currently running ends when the 50% offer starts on Thursday.

As far as I'm aware, this only applies to items with a red sale sticker, but it could also apply to big ticket items like laptops and TV's (which are on the clearance list, but don't have stickers on them). I'll update this thread on Thursday when I'll be able to confirm if this is the case.
