Why ? Both Sky HD and Freeview HD are transmitted in 720p, only Blu Rays are 1080p.
What about an opinion pole?

I don't think that's right, the signal is broadcast using a 1080i signal (although the broadcast resolution itself may be less) and then the Sky HD box either outputs 1080i or downscales and deinterlaces it and outputs at 720p.

You've answered your own question. He's probably voted cold because you can get a 1080p 32" TV with support for a PC or laptop for around £30 more.
Personally, I think this a good deal for people who want to watch programmes or movies. But for computers or BluRays, it's probably worth paying a little bit more for 1080p.
Which 32" tv from Richer Sounds should people go for? Can you also point out an alternative at the Sharp site? I must be missing something as your advise is coming across as completely pointless.
