And still, cheaper they come.

Set looks nice but Finlux was always at the lower end of the quality scale, was it not ?

finlux crt's used to be at the higher end of the scale. they were a finnish company which at one time was owned by nokia. i have one of the older 32" crt's and it was aronud £650 new then, also it had a really great black and some games (thanks to nokia) and a five year garantee. unfortunatly finlux uk went belly up and i think i read on this forum that a turkish company bought the parant company but cant swear by that. richersounds were doing a deal on these a while back (not the 1080p) i went down and had a look but didnt buy

Why didn't you buy?

oh only reason was i wanted the panasonic px70 instead. but only thing i can say about the finlux i have is that it was top of the line when i got it it still works 100%. ebuyer seem to have a good few of these but it would be nice to read a decent review before buying

Finlux was always a prestige brand. Probably the TV equivalent of Roberts radio. Simple sets but high quality at a sensible price.

However, I beleieve the brand name has been sold in recent years.

Yup, Vestel now own Finlux: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finlux

Don't let that put you off, necessarily, as Vestel have made some good stuff over the years.

Edit: Check out the brands that Vestel make products for:

http://www.vestel.com.tr/en/brands

I think that list will surprise a lot of people..

very interesting:

Vestel Elektronics, having a good reputation globally by its superior technology, has been manufacturing the products of the global electronic giants such as JVC, Hitachi, Sharp, Sanyo,Thomson, LG and Toshiba in its facilities together with its own trade marks for the last four years .

The LG is not 1080p. It has a 1366 x 768 panel.

okley doke so not a fair comparison. but that LG is still pretty good, right :?:

So I need a flat screen, say 37 to 42 inch that is going to receive a wireless scart signal from my SKY+ box. I don't really need full 1080p or even HD for that matter. It's for the kitchen as we spend quite a bit of time there, but the sky+box is in the lounge at the other end of the house.. I don't want hunners of trailing cables so I'm gonna use a wirless scart.

With that in mind - any recommedations. Only thing I might do is plug my pc/laptop in to play pc games now I then but no blueray, x-box or playstaion will be connected.

(you're all gonna say it will be in future, aren't you ? )

Found a PDF brochure for this TV: http://www.finlux.fi/file/518

And a generic 42" LCD manual: http://www.finlux.fi/file/74?dsid15=kbthc56mqcuf2mmpncheu9vqo0

But they're in Finnish and may not be 100% accurate for the UK model

I assume that as Finlux are now owned by the Zorla group they won't have the same "panaché" as the mid/late-nineties ones (if that's what you call built-in games and a 640x480 VGA input). Although, I think the PIP on this set can display the AV inputs, which is fairly uncommon.

Hopefully, someone on here bought one and can report back.

Cheers.

Did anybody order one as i bout to lay down the cash wondered if was anybodys pics or reviews also wanted to know what the wall bracket was like
#23
Someone on AVForums was getting one tomorrow - for delivery early next week I presume. No other buyers have held their head above the parapet yet.
#24
For what it's worth I was in directtvs in Huddersfield earlier today and they have the 37" version of this out on display. It was showing Casino Royale from Blue Ray and the picture was simply incredible. Best out of all the TVs on display there with the same feed.

Only contentious point was that the manual buttons on the right hand side of the case felt rather cheap but it's a very slim set from to back and that picture does it for me!

I'm waiting for them to get the 42" in stock next week - prefer to shop there as I have a mate who works there, support the locals etc.
