Decent price, but it can normally be found around the £12 mark anyway, so not an astounding reduction.

An almost 23% saving over the next best price seems good to me.

Great series - a highly recommended purchase if you havn't had the pleasure of watching it before. :)
#3
Well I said it was decent. Good if you want to use another word. But half the next best price would be astounding. :)

True :-D

Good series, but I wouldn't buy it purely because it's left in the air after they cancelled it after the first season (like they do with a lot of decent American TV series).

Still voted hot though =)

this was followed up with the movie 'Serenity' which was also brilliant, just like the show. I've seen it on offer recently just can't remember where! maybe a search here will find it?
voted hot, great show and a lot of entertainment for the price!
#7
I bought it ages ago and still haven't watched it. I bought Serenity ages ago, and then got it free on HD-DVD recently too, but I don't want to watch that until I've watched Firefly!
#8
I've been looking for this for under £10, thanks. Voted hot!

Great series, worth a tenner of anyone's money!

There's a lot more that they could have done, if they had been given more seasons, but the movie 'Serenity' faithfully delivers the answers to almost all of our questions. The important thing is that nobody is left hanging, wondering - well what was the point of that?

There's a lot of tv shows that don't give us that sense of closure when they're allowed to run for six seasons, and have a planned finale! Tony Soprano, I'm looking at you!

Genuinely some of the best TV made. Funny, poignant, likeable, wonderful.

Also voted hot-tastic.

As has been said Serenity does give some closure to the series.
I didn't feel 'left in the air' at the end of the season at all; the episodes are just so good that each can almost stand on it's own. What is frustrating is to watch a series like Lost floundering through it's 3rd and 4th seasons knowing just how much more fun it would be to watch Firefly.
#13
Although I've seen this as cheap as £12.99 before, it's still a deal on my opinion at just under a tenner. Ordered and voted hot. Many thanks to the OP.
#14
Its great, well worth a tenner of any sci fi fans money!
#15
Cheers for this, been meaning to order for a while :D

DIdn't even make the full first season.

However, the episodes that were made are very rewatchable, so well worth a tenner of anyone's money. :)

You won't buy it because it's been cancelled? That doesn't make any sense. As other people have already pointed out, the plot from the series is finished off in the movie, 'Serenity'. But as for not buying it... if no one had bought Family Guy on DVD when it was cancelled, Fox wouldn't have finally had the sense to renew it. So logic dictates if everyone bought Firefly on DVD, they might just bring it back!

A waste of a tenner save your money, truly appalling.

A sort of cowboy wild west in outer space, totally unrealistic, very politically correct, very predictable.

Should cure your insomnia, it wasn't dumped by the US network for no reason.

It was dumped by Fox for low viewing figures. However, given the success of the DVD boxset, I think it is safe to argue that this had more to do with Fox''s handling of the show (showing the series out of order, constantly changing it's time slot, lack of advertising, etc.), than it does to do with the quality of the show. :)

Totally unrealistic?! Dang-it I thought this was a documentary like Ice Road Truckers.

I think you might find your opinion is in a minority so small it's probably incalcuable.

How is it politically correct? Because they swear in Chinese?

My wife's from Taiwan, it makes her blush.
I might seek out a region 3 copy just to see how they deal with the translation.

Wash your mouth out with soap! We'll have none of that sensible-type talk around here... You obviously aren't a local are you???

(Agreed; decent price, but I can't get really, really excited about £2 either. However, according to the terms of what makes what hot, its hot)

I'll get that Jimi Hendrix best of CD for £1.99 with that £2 saving, thank you very much!

Ooh, and Family Guy Season 6 for a tenner too!

Watch the special features section. The Chinese interpreter explained the process where the Joss Whedon came up with an idea for a curse, she translated it as best she could, and then the actors tried to pick it up phonetically. She thought it was hilarious, but at the same time could see the point, and so can I. In Firefly it was deep, deep back-story that China had conquered half the globe and so the conquered races 100 years later were speaking snatches of a sort of garbled demotic Chinese the same way the Gauls in France learned a garbled demotic Latin.. It's a brilliant idea, and added real colour to the series, and anyone who can't see what a genius Joss Whedon was should be taken out and shot and their bodies piled on the pyre with all the Fox execs who chopped up the running order and scheduled the show all over the place...

It doesn't matter if you watch Serenity first, or Firefly first. Both of them are written with such genius and spirit they stand alone and bear long-term repeated viewing. Speaking as someone with a collection of 300 DVDs few of which he has watched more than twice...

I got this a few months ago, and paid twice as much for it. Great series that should never have ended. Shame on you FOX, voted hot.

They are two fine additions to any household's media library. However, I am not convinced that either purchase has been prompted by a £2 saving. Rather, its the result of the actual selling price dropping to a "trigger" price point.

Looking at the Jimi CD; for it to be a counter argument, you are effectively saying you weren't prepared to pay £3.99 for the disc. That suggests you consider it a "nice to have" rather than "essential". At £1.99, its dropped below the cost of a pint and become pocket change, so worth gambling on a "nice to have" product.

Family Guy is even more closely tied to Price Points. Looking on find-dvd, you aren't even saving two of your english pounds by getting it for a tenner. The thing that makes it an attractive purchase is that single digit in the £ column, not being a whole quid cheaper than the next shop.

Retailers have based their pricing on trigger points like this for years. I was reading an article a while back where they claimed (tongue in cheek) that the perfect bottle of wine cost £4.33 (or thereabouts). It was all linked to the sweet spot price where people felt they were avoiding the "cheap and nasty" stuff, but not being extravagent either. We all do it with everything we buy (hence all the £xx.99).

Of course, in both cases, you may have already decided you were going to buy the CD/DVD today and would have paid the extra anyway, but then that wouldn't support either viewpoint - but would mean you got lucky!

As for Firefly for a tenner - still HOT!

Isn't it just cost versus desire?
I bought this ages ago for £17. It has been umpteen prices since and featured on this site many many times prompting purchases and awareness at whatever the current price reduction was.
You must be a nightmare to take shopping.:-D
