Best martial arts movie ever?

Jet Li stars in this historical Hong Kong action film, as Chen Zhen, a Chinese student in Japan in the 1920s. When his master is killed during the Japanese occupation of China, he returns to avenge his teacher's death. Back in China, he finds himself caught in the escalating racial tensions between the Chinese and the Japanese. The martial arts sequences in this 1994 film are handled more seriously than flashy acrobatics of other kung fu epics of the time and are perhaps a better showcase for Li's awe-inspiring fighting abilities. A loving homage to the 1973 Bruce Lee kung fu classic CHINESE CONNECTION (i.e. fist of fury), updated with increased production values, a ROMEO AND JULIET-style romantic subplot, and a more temperate view of the Japanese enemy.

have to disagree, though i do like the fong sai yuk (etc) films, this is miles better, not just the fight scenes which are best i've seen in terms of pace and "realism" but the film has an engaging storyline and is watchable time and time again.
i'm a massive jacky chan fan but i'd have to rate this better than any of his.
Storylines pretty much identical to Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury, but who cares when the fights are this good?
This, Fong sai yuk and Tai chi master (aka Twin warriors) are my fave old school jet li movies
I still favour Jackie chan though.
It says it's Cantonese with subtitles.
Classic film with some amazing fight scenes.

But it is definitely up there with the best, in the fight sequences.
Go and watch some old school kung fu movies form ShawShank brothers ... minus the Holywood/modern glitz just raw action and scene settings =)
And yes this is basically a re-make of fist of fury, kind of a tribute to it.
