Best martial arts movie ever?

don't forget 5% topcashback/quidco

Jet Li stars in this historical Hong Kong action film, as Chen Zhen, a Chinese student in Japan in the 1920s. When his master is killed during the Japanese occupation of China, he returns to avenge his teacher's death. Back in China, he finds himself caught in the escalating racial tensions between the Chinese and the Japanese. The martial arts sequences in this 1994 film are handled more seriously than flashy acrobatics of other kung fu epics of the time and are perhaps a better showcase for Li's awe-inspiring fighting abilities. A loving homage to the 1973 Bruce Lee kung fu classic CHINESE CONNECTION (i.e. fist of fury), updated with increased production values, a ROMEO AND JULIET-style romantic subplot, and a more temperate view of the Japanese enemy.

Not only is the best film of Jet Li by far, is the best Martial Art film ever.
#5
Jet Li's best?

Not by a long chalk. Check out the Once Upon a Time in China series, Fong Sai Yuk or Swordsman 2 for his best work.

Great price for a good film. hot.

have to disagree, though i do like the fong sai yuk (etc) films, this is miles better, not just the fight scenes which are best i've seen in terms of pace and "realism" but the film has an engaging storyline and is watchable time and time again.

i'm a massive jacky chan fan but i'd have to rate this better than any of his.

Is this the version that is badly dubbed version in English? I HATE that version! lol
#10
Yeah this is far better than the once upon a time series.
Storylines pretty much identical to Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury, but who cares when the fights are this good?
This, Fong sai yuk and Tai chi master (aka Twin warriors) are my fave old school jet li movies

I still favour Jackie chan though.

It says it's Cantonese with subtitles.

Classic film with some amazing fight scenes.

Agree with most of the comments. Great movie. This is actually a decent blu ray too. HD Source unlike the horrible SD German Upscale blu ray.

Fist of Legend inspired the Wachowski brothers to hire choreographer Yuen Woo-ping for the fight scenes in The Matrix............................................

One of Jet Li's best, but best martial arts film? No way. The recent spectacular Ip Man would edge it-- the dojo scene is phwoaaar!

Have to say these are by no way the best martial arts movies. You guys couldnt have watch ed many if you rate this so highly. Or more likely watched too much Holywood influenced marital arts movies.
But it is definitely up there with the best, in the fight sequences.
Go and watch some old school kung fu movies form ShawShank brothers ... minus the Holywood/modern glitz just raw action and scene settings =)
And yes this is basically a re-make of fist of fury, kind of a tribute to it.
#21
ShawShank Brothers?! I think you mean Shaw Brothers...
suspended#22
do u also mean Hollywood or am I being a stupid?

really enjoyed the fight scenes in this movie, think I will have to purchase this to add to my bluray collection

thats what i said earlier, The whole concept on one chinese man kicking 10 jap butts started from the ip man legend , probably y u see it in bruce lee his students movies and jet li's movie

Fist of Legend is highly rated amongst the hard core kung fu flickers. Fist of Legend is not very hollywoody in anyway. This along with Tai-Chi Master, Iron Monkey, Profigal Son, Dunken Master 2, and Once Upon a time in China 1. are the cream of the crop of recentyears . If you want to go way back earlier check out Shaolin Temple (Jet LI) 36th Chamber of Shaolin, Five Deadly Venoms, Executioner From Shaolin, Mystery of Chess Boxing actually the list goes on - but not to forget the master himself Bruce Lee and all his films, the only exception is Game of Death, where the only decent bits are the acual Bruce Lee Fight sequences.

I completely agree with drunkenmaster whoever said Fist of Legend is anything like hollywood is a joke and doesnt know much about hk martial arts films, im a massive fan of Donnie Yen and Iron Monkey is one of my all time favs I prefer OUATIC 2 though due to jet and donnie both bein in the film other great films /I like to add are Warriors Two, Drunken Tai Chi, Fatal contact, Blade of Fury, Top Bet(not really a martial arts film but it has a great scene where Anita Mui fights a gang of nunchukas with a three sectional staff), way of the dragon, In The Line Of Duty 4,

I also like to repeat what I said, I said one of Jet Li's Best Film ever not the Best Martial Film ever also "Opinions are subjective they are not fact" so stop arguing and let people like whatever they like
