Unless you absolutely require GPS inbuilt into the watch (which is not super accurate anyway) don't bother with the Surge and go for the Blaze instead. The straps are not very well designed and are prone to failing from as little as 4 months of use. The straps are not available to purchase separately, leaving you with nothing more than a paperweight.

apparently you can email Fitbit customer services and they'll send you a replacement or refund

edit:- my Fitbit Surge HR watch strap has begun to come away from the screen. I just emailled their customer service today, so I will update this post if/when they get back to me

new surge with interchangeable straps will be released soon. expect the price of this to continue to fall until stocks are depleted

They certainly will replace it if the strap fails. My boys charge hr buckle broke, all the wanted was a photo of the charge and of the receipt. They sent a new one out next day and didn't even want the old one back. I got a new buck from ebay for £3 so now we have 2!

Wife got one from boots for £133 last week using the 15% off tech code.

I had mine the month it was released. Although the strap started to fail at 6 months it let go completely at 7. After asking on the forum I contacted customer support who eventually told me they will not exchange due to me not buying from an 'Authorised seller'. I repaired the strap and it lasted another 3 months or so, but finally died and is now sitting in a draw in the bedroom as its no good to anyone.
Fact of the matter is the Blaze is superior in every way apart from GPS. I have owned both since their releases.

When my strap failed I contacted Fitbit via live chat and received a replacement in a couple of days. Very good service.
I wouldn't be interested in a tracker without GPS.

admittedly more expensive, but more features and has a replaceable strap (great, fitbit might replace within 12months, but the strap will break again outside of the warranty) the garmin vivoactive hr...I was so close to pulling the trigger on the surge until I did some reading around about the strap issues...**** that
