DVD Description
Satirical US drama Flight of the Conchords follows the trials and tribulations of a two man, digi-folk band from New Zealand as they try to make a name for themselves in their adopted home of New York City. The show portrays a fictionalised version of a real-life duo, Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, who play themselves. Bret and Jemaine have moved to New York in the hope of forging a successful music career. They've managed to find a manager (whose "other" job is at the New Zealand Consulate), one fan (a married obsessive) and one friend (who owns the local pawn shop)--but not much else.

Synopsis
Nominated for a prestigious Writers' Guild Award (WGA), this HBO series follows the misadventures of struggling folk act Flight of the Conchords (real-life comedy partners Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie). Hoping to extend their fanbase beyond one obsessed groupie, the guys move to New York's East Village, where it soon becomes apparent that America's not ready for their unique brand of music.

Season 2 is NOWHERE NEAR as good as the first. They used all their funniest songs in the first.

Yep, still funny in places but not as good as the first series.

Season 1 (ie THIS DVD) is superb!! Season 2 is patchy at best. This is because season 1 was based on the songs/works they had done before (5-6 years worth!) and Season 2 had to be written in a few months to satisfy their HBO contract. They even admited they were struggling to write it at the time... they had to scale back the number of episodes and there are no plans for any more shows... Not that they mind that much as all the main actors got a good deal of Hollywood work on the back of season 1.

First seasons songs are hilarious, one of the funniest shows in years, well worth a tenner
#12
I hate this show, but LOVE the songs.

Worth buying even if just for the songs, hilarious.

Since there are only two seasons, a box set will be inevitable in the summer. This will either work out cheaper, or drive the price of season one way down (hopefully).
(and I agree season two is a pale imitation of the first, with some flashes of genius, eg The Prime Minister, and Lucy Lawless of course!)

binary solo...

Heat added. Apparently the dvds are just the episodes, no extras [vanilla], but heck for a tenner it'll save my videos of the shows wearing out.

And series 2 starts next Tues [12th] 1030ish BBC4.

[and my gf was the same, liked the songs but wasn't impressed by the show...]

My fav's gotta be the David Bowie tribute ;)

Much love for it also,
Thought the second season was better than the first.

In an interview they were also saying that in the first season the show was written about the songs, but in the second it was the other way round which I think made the actual show a lot more entertaining.

This programme is brilliant.

Have just started watching season 1 repeat currently showing on BBC4......... quirky, funny & catchy !

I can't wait for the new series, we loved the first, genius! Murray and Mel are hilarious in it, worth watching for them alone. Buy this DVD - you won't regret it! Conditions are perfect ;-)

This series is amazing. I payed £16 for this DVD from HMV, no exras etc.

Wish I had not seen season 2 though kind of ruined the magic by being massively disappointing.

Season 2 is NOWHERE NEAR as good as the first. With the exception of the Epileptic Dogs episode, that's just behind Bowie as the best one in my eyes.
#25
I definitely think season 2 was the equal of the first (and thats saying quite a bit cos 1 was awesome)

Also make sure to checkout another HBO comedy 'Eastbound and Down'

LONG LIVE KENNY POWERS!
