I've never understood how can anyone book flights for a year in advance.
Is your life so incredibly dull that you're completely certain that nothing is going to change for 12 months?
You need kids, tends to get your life into perspective and organised.... Especially with holidays! You either book well in advance or leave it late... Early, more choice of what you want. Late, you take your chances!!
We knew what we wanted in terms of an apartment in Majorca so took a flyer for two weeks and booked it. I know I could get flights for £700 or thereabouts from bonnie Scotland, but for £498 in August.... That's a bargain my friend.
Fair comment.
I have made sure I used protection and thankfully have had no kids. I've managed to visit 12 countries, across 3 continents this year.
Have fun with your budget holidays in Europe in 2018!
I am going to guess that protection wise your personality is a big help.

Some things are fairly guaranteed, school holidays are fix and none negotiable, flights/holiday prices will triple during school holidays. So planing for a nice holiday and saving 60% means more fun and enjoyment which doesn't sound dull to me.

5th-13th of August do you mean? Sorry I can't see it in the description. Thanks for the heads up though!

They don't seem to fly direct from Manchester. I gave up looking from other northern airports. I think you have to put PAL (for Palma, Spain) in the search box for Mallorca. It didn't like MAL or MAJ.

We booked ours on the 5th August 2017, returning Stanstead on the 19th, two adults and two children for £498. (Mainly London Airports). This includes luggage.

Ok flights out are at 8,45pm, flights home at midnight, but that is half the price of anywhere else and cheaper than driving to Edinburgh and Ryanair also which seem expensive this year! Last year we flew from Edinburgh to PMI for £600 and anywhere South of Hadrians Wall was £1000 at that time.

I booked with BA two weeks ago... Heated.

Edit: Just checked, cheapest now is £617, that includes baggage also and is still cheap for the time!

Add you fuel, travelling and any additional hotel into the mix and see what you think... For us, it#s a 2hr drive although two weeks parking is £98 instead of £60, but I don't have half as much fuel to use, hotel the night before plus meals for four night beforehand like I did last year

use premier inn park and fly, we got two weeks parking which was the stanstead long stay and a night in premier Inn for £84. was cheaper than buying just the parking.

Some of the last minute Thomson prices this summer were ridiculously cheap for the Balaerics but on the downside the accommodation was again ridiculously expensive. I suppose if you booked the accommodation early and knew the flight times Thomson were going to operate next year you could take a risk and grab a cheap deal.

thomson always have cheap flights every year, and not just to majorca, to orlando £189 return there was a lot of availability and a load of other places, nothing special

We booked with BA for next Easter school holidays a month ago from Heathrow and have to say it was cheap. Including luggage, two adults and one child aged 15 the total was £480. We tried to compare Easyjet, RyanAir & Monarch and only Monarch had flights listed but by the time you added luggage far more expensive. From past experinece both RyanAir & Easyjet fares for Easter are closer to £800 almost double. Ahh and I wouldn't fly withn RyanAir again, complete con, trying to rip the customer off from time of booking to the point of return checkin, take care if using them.

BA have been enhancing their services of late. One of way is cutting catering to the bone on short haul, and not allowing you to buy on board. Remember to buy something at the airport!

PMI or PAL work. Not a great website really compared to Easyjet or Ryan air. PMI, Maj, pal all work on Easyjet. No obvious way of seeing what UK destinations you can get to direct from Palma either.

Shop around. I'm fortunate enough to have four or five foreign beach holidays each year, I've never spent more than £75 return on the flights. Accommodation can be dirt cheap too. Last year, i stayed in a 4* hotel, inc breakfast in Malta with a pass to the spa for £3 per night. Put the effort in and get the rewards. Don't rely on others, chances are all the hot deals will have gone.

Not at the airport! Take your own cold bacon or sausage sandwich. Or get something from Greggs or Morrisons the day before.

Just to say on the cheaper BA flights think about business class especially for the free 2 * 32KG luggage, I saw some at around £100 a leg so a group of four could have one person business class allocated all the luggage and rest in cattle!
#29
My guess, total flexibility to get at £75 return, not to worry where you go and not in the school holidays. :) (or very very limited if so).

Wife and I have done a couple of short away's on a very limited budget around £80-100 on flights for us both plus hotel and it is possible, just got to search, be open minded and keep looking. Had a few nice w/e's away without the kids! :) Oh and no luggage, just a carry-on bag for the w/e, but that is all you need! (well, try telling the wife that?!?)

I thought about doing that with the kids/wife in next August and then me going is business class, but then I thought I may not have a wife and kids thereafter!!!! :) Oh and the holiday for two weeks....

What dates were they please? I saw some for £80, but certainly not in holiday times for the kids... Was tempted to have a holiday all by myself! :)
