They are the official Italian Airlines (Alitalia) flown with them a few times and they were ok. Not as good as the gulf airlines e.g. emirates, qatar etc. But for this price they are well cheap!

I cant seem to find any for the May Bank holiday.... Any example of cheaper dates ... The cheapest i found were £595 for 2 of us...
#12
Not that cheap. CSA Czech Airlines were offering £98 return Heathrow Cairo via Prague a week or two ago.

Cheap flights for sure but for people who have not been before be warned that Cairo is the most disgusting City you will probably ever have the misfortune of going to, dont get me wrong it is worth seeing the Pyramids and the Sphinx but other than that I wouldnt go back there even if the flights were free! Horrible place with horrible people, if you are going to go to Egypt then I would suggest you go to the Red Sea area!

Thanks for your comments but you know which airport is nearer to Red Sea area .... Or you mean touch down in Cairo & stay in Red Sea area ...

If you are going to the Red Sea area then I wouldnt advise flying to Cairo as this is a long way away, you can fly direct to Sharm El Sheikh from many UK airports which is much more appropriate.

Anyone ever seen that old spoof FIAT advert...designed by computers, built by robots.......AND DRIVEN BY ITALIANS (picture of car crashing)...not sure if same parallel can be applied to their airlines...lol ;-)

not bad

You can buy really cheap tickets in Cario to Red Sea and Sharm Al Sheikh. So you could vist Cairo stay for a bit there and go to the sea resorts...

I Find this opinion (although valid as it is an opinion) to be a little harsh. I lived in Cairo for 5 years found it to be a city of great interest and with some of the friendliest people you are likely to meet. The culture is totally alien to that of our own, which is why the average western tourist may find it a little 'oppressive'. However - get out of your cosy hotel and hit the streets - ride a taxi get down the backstreets. You won't regret it.

If you don't fancy that they syill have McDonalds, Wendy's and even a Carrefour supermarket!

As you state it is only my opinion, I did not find Cairo a nice place whatsoever. I would actually say the opposite of you and tell anyone visiting to stay in their nice cosy hotel because if you do then you may find Cairo enjoyable but it was from walking the streets and trying to take in some of the culture that basically had me decide on the spot that I would never go back there again. The place is on the whole dirty and as a western tourist you are made to feel about as welcome as Myra Hindley at a kids birthday party. If you are a young attractive woman I would suggest you go nowhere near Cairo as the local men speak to you like you are a piece of meat, my girlfriend felt very intimidated and I was close to losing my rag a few times with the local men. Despite what you say I would not recommend that anyone takes in the backstreets unless they are carrying a sub machine gun, some grenades or a lightsabre! The people on the whole are still living in the dark ages and it doesnt bode well for an enjoyable trip. The flights are cheap but if its a city break you are after do yourself a favour save a few extra quid and go somewhere like New York or Toronto!

They are no longer a state-owned airline. The original airline went bust last August

I had no idea. Thats great news. They were horrible and I had tons of problems with them and was always wishing they would just go bust. Looks like my prayers were answered! :D

I heard about the people always giving tourists hassle - begging for money and not taking no for an answer but I didn't imagine the place would be as bad as you describe it.

How about Luxor/Alexandria? did you visit either of these places?

I went to Luxor and I found it very similar to Cairo, both places have things worth seeing, The Pyramids and The Sphinx in Cairo and Karnak temple and the Valley of the Kings in Luxor but these can be done in a single day easily. I would not want a full holiday in either city mainly because of the local people! Maybe I was unlucky and others on here have had a great time over there but I thought it was worth giving people an insight into the place before they booked flights on the basis of them being cheap!

I am forced to use them everytime I go to see the family.
ONE PIECE OF ADVICE: HAVE A GOOD TRAVEL INSURANCE!!!
When things go wrong they tempt to abandon you in the airport. Happened to me three times in 7 years.
Get a travel insurance so you can go to a hilton to rest when your connection flight has gone without you.
THEY DO NOT COMPLY WITH INTERNATIONAL REGULATION! And there is nothing you can do, unless you have a good lawyer and a lot of spare cash.
Eventually you'll give up in frustration because no one is accountable in that company.
This company is known to have been run with taxpayer money since the 90s on an average loss of £30 per second!
I believe this is because they are rude, incompetent and anaccountable so when people have a choice, they fligh with someone else.
Apologies if I started a campaign against Alitalia, but they really are bad (When things don't go accordingly to plans)

They are no longer a state-owned airline. The original airline went bust last August, but the brand name and some assets were bought in December 2008 and a new, privately-owned Alitalia was launched in January of this year.

Still enjoying taking taxpayers money to pay for the loss!

The price now is coming up at £281, from LHR to Cairo, dates are 15/06/09 to 27/06/09, or does anyone else have any cheaper quotes for these dates. Can fly from Manchester too. thank you

anyone help, price is coming up more

Good price, but Alitalia are shocking, we went once with them to Cairo, worst flight ever, shocking food, plane was tiny for the amount of people, crappy pilot, was all shocking.

British Airways all the time!
