Been watching these for a while and it has finally come down to something akin to affordable

The 3rd gen is much better but costs much more, better because of the stabilisation s/ware but is more than double the price.

Hope this helps someone!

Shame that Flip is to be discontinued so I guess that's why they're flogging these off.

I've got one of these and the lack of image stabilisation is a MASSIVE limitation. Don't underestimate it. Without a tripod, it's almost impossible to avoid constant shake - and having a tripod defeats the portability. That said, the quality is pretty good if you can hold it still. If you can sit down and brace your elbow against a table or something, it's not so bad. I've also got some awesome results by running the footage through Deshaker (http://www.guthspot.se/video/deshaker.htm)

Cheers Eric
I have used them before and as long as the subject is suitably far enough away it seemed fine, (I didn't play back through a 40" TV though).
Thanks too for the link to deshaker!
