Arguably a better and cheaper HD cam here (though SD card required)

I had one but sent it back to Amazon, i found the build quality to be iffy, made of cheapish plastic. It also doesn't have a hdmi port to play directly through HD TV, which most other have.

I have the orginal FLIP HD, but the shakiness ruins it for me

My in-laws have one of these Flip cameras and, although it's much more convenient than a traditional camcorder, I don't think the video quality's brilliant. (Certainly the 'HD' bit is pointless given the source.)

We ended up getting a small compact camera to carry around for less than this (from HUKD of course!) which as far as I can see provides better quality video and is a decent device for stills as well.

Incidentally, the Panasonic FS10 (linked above) also has optical stabilisation, which is a definite bonus for filming as well as low-light stills - and I'm sure there'll be other compact cameras with similar features around this range. Sorry if I've missed something, just not sure what the advantage is of things like the Flip!

My how this little camera has fallen in price. The new 3rd Generation Mino has image stabilization built in and it's worth spending the extra. I had the original Flip Mino and you'd swear I'd Parkinson's. Particularly bad when zooming.

My mrs loves ours. Uses it all the time.

How do these compare to phones with 720p video recording?

I just got a Toshiba Camileo P20 yesterday following a great review in the latest computeractive. just started playing with it, and it seems great for 112.49 delivered at Pixmania. link below. Hope it helps.

This is poor value compared with the superb waterproof Kodak Playsport Zx3 at only £13 more; Image stabilization, removeable SD cards, fully waterproof up to 3 m and full 1080p.....why would you buy the flip?

It may partly depend on the intended use, I primarily deal with this type of video camera in primary schools which the new Kodak isn't great for as it has a separate USB cable unlike the previous models which had it built in. The Flip also has the memory builtin which is something else that can't go missing although that's of mixed benefit as it limits the space.

However being unable to take pictures on the Flip is a real deal breaker, I assumed I was missing the option but no, you can't do it all on many models. This one sounds slightly better but I don't see why they can't just have a standard photo mode as the Kodaks do.

You have to order by phone, does not accept code online for some reason.
