It's been a long time, but I always found the Eheim equivalent, although more money, and in some cases not quite the same flow rate, were a better produced kit. Eheim are normally much quieter

However this looks a good deal for the Fluval.

Good price on this 305 but some have suffered reliability problems, Like has been mentioned here already the Eheims are a better pump but you'll pay for the quality..

Voted hot cos of the price..:)

After researching for several days on lots of forums I found that many have had much success using the 5 series range of fluval filters. The flexibility of the filter media that can be used is strongly admired and of course you are not tied to buying their brand of media - there are loads to choose from - remember the biological ceramic media need not be replaced as suggested by the manufacturer but a wash in tank water when you do a water change will suffice as ceramic isnt likely to degenerate for a few years at least I would imagine - therefore even cheaper media !! .

I have just bought the 405 off a trade seller on ebay - he has sold over 200 of these and they come with a 3 year warranty. I paid £85 and should get about £3.50 back on TCB so total cost £81.50.

After setting it up yesterday I can confirm that this is definately NOT a noisy filter , given its power (1300l/hr flow rate are quoted) which for my 190l aquarium means crystal clear water as it cycles my entire tank more than 6 times an hour !!!

I'm made up with it as you can probably tell - comes with a 3 year warranty however except the impeller there are no moving parts at all so the only thing likely to replace is seals that break down over time and the impellor itself .....

Hope this helps anyone thinking of buying an external filter
