I ordered one, noticed a similar one but bit cheaper. Field Jacket

Looks very nice, actually.

EDIT: Does anyone know what this is made of? I prefer this style to the Atticus one, but I notice that the Atticus one is 50% wool, which also appeals.

EDIT2: Turns out the Fly53 jacket is 55% wool. Bonus!

any idea on sizes, are fly a small fitting - any help appreciated as this is a really nice jacket and I would like to get for my partner, just not sure on what size to get him thanks

Fly53 coats tend to be tight fitting. I'm a medium and wear a medium size. This fits 'fashionably tight'. Although not much chance of getting a jumper under there! I would recommend getting one size larger if you intend to wear layers underneath it.

Be wary of the RRP. I just bought a jacket from Play in this sale which was listed as RRP 129.99. When it arrived it had the manufacturer's RRP tag still on it which said £79.99.

Try to get a price from somewhere other than Play.

Do play accept returns of opened clothing?

hmm I looked on the info and they seem to contradict themselves with the 28 days return and the 7 day return, slightly confusing? Also they mention a refund of postage but the postage is free?

ps I ordered the size above what my partner normally has so I will not rest until he has tried it on now hehe

Well the refund of postage refers to the fees when you post the item back. I think returning it should be okay as long as I don't tear the original packaging apart :D.

Will this work with the voucher code?

A word of caution. If u do plan on buying this be careful because the dye does rub off on to your clothes. Dry cleaning did solve the issue though and it's ok now. Go with the next size up like others state because they do run up a bit small. Nice coat all in all.

Always worth trying when retailer voucher is greater than cashback. 20% > 6% in this case. Obviously not worth doing if its the other way round!

Is this the same jacket - http://www.mandmdirect.com/products-Fly53-Mens-Fly-Down-Wool-Melton-Jacket-Black_FY579.htm ?

Play RRP seems a bit too high if it is.

I thought this was the same jacket I bought last week for £88 from http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/FLY53+Root+Down+II+coat/143710988,default,pd.html , but there a slight difference and based on the staining comments I think I'll stick with it,

I ordered this last week when I saw the 20% off jackets.

My suit size is 36s/36r, so small would be the size I should go for.

But I also have 2 other fly53 clothings (jacket and hoddie) both are medium and fit well.

So I just ordered a S and M. The S jacket arrived on monday and is more or less a perfect fit (good slim fit, blazer will fit underneath).

If your suit size is 36 get S, if you are 38 in suit size go for M.

M hasn't arrived yet, but I will just return it when it does, I believe I will have to pay the return postage though, but I am ok with that, TCB tracked at just over £4 each so that should cover the return (ordered the 2 sizes as 2 seperate orders so cashback doesn't get declined when I return 1)

I haven't worn it outside yet but it is a very nice jacket, especially at £40, would expect to pay around £100 in house of fraiser.

Voucher code not valid, gutted, was looking for a jacket and this was perfect :(
#32
The voucher code was a 48 hour discount only, sadly.

Arrived today. Great looking jacket. I am generally a large size, went for the XL due to comments on this site and luckily enough XL seems to fit great.

I am wondering if I should take it for a dry clean to stop the dye staining issue before I wear. Would anyone recommend this?

Back down to £39.99 with small and large sizes in stock :)

I noticed that after handling mine to take it out of the packet, my fingertips were pretty black. As such, I hand-washed mine in very cool water and only a tiny amount of detergent. LOTS of black dye came out, which makes me suspect that if I had NOT done this, the dye would have run on my clothes the minute it got wet in the rain... It might still do that, but there's no way of knowing until in that situation.

The jacket is still drying out but it has not shrunk, so it can stand up to a gentle hand wash - I would probably recommend this, as a dry clean may not get the dye out, whereas a bit of a soak in the bathtub should do. Just keep the water very cool, try to keep the jacket flat, do NOT wring it out, give it another soak in a fresh batch of water and then allow it to drip-dry. It'll take ages to dry, but at least you won't damage the fibres.

The only notable change to the jacket is that the material has lost a bit of its lustre, but that actually makes it look more like a wool jacket and less like a poly-wool mix.

Some good points but the review on the play site does state that:

"A word of caution. If u do plan on buying this be careful because the dye does rub off on to your clothes. Dry cleaning did solve the issue though and it's ok now."

I'm just going to take it to the dry cleaners, as I have no idea how to hand wash and can't be bothered with the hassle.
