Half the thickness but less than half the price of the b&q one? ie a better deal? I only need this thickness anyway so may go for this, just a shame that focus is much further away.
#4
heat added,,so how many of these can i fit in my car????????
#5
as the add says
all 100mm loft insulation from 1.15 per roll. will have to see if theres any left at this price.
#6
Cool that looks like the knaupf stuff the space blanket thing, have some heat and rep
#7
3 rolls for £3 in B&Q
#8
270mm is the recommended thickness isnt it?
100mm isnt really worth it is it?

Also, you might be entitled to a grant
http://www.government-grants.co.uk/

also check your local gas/elec supplier as they may offer somthing.

ALL TOPPING UP OF INSULATION IS WORTH IT!

..Less heat out, less money to shell out!
#10
spend a weekend and insulate under your floor if you have an old house and the space to do it,well worth it,and also top up the insulation in your loft, can never have too much.the only trouble is this is the glass wool stuff and b and q is same, hella fe stuff to work with, masks gloves and boiler suit required.money will be well spent if you are prepared to put in the effort for little money.:whistling::whistling::whistling:

You might well be, but good luck getting it, there's only so much money in the grant fund...
Some areas ran out quite quickly, and the Government aren't being particularly speedy at topping it up :?

Gonna ask a (Possibly stupid) Q. now:-

If I laid 2 lots of this cheap stuff surely that would be better than say 1 x 200mm thickness of more expensive material (or even getting close to the magic 270mm recommended thickness).

A bit like 2 T-Shirts is warmer than 1 thick one as surely it would trap air between the layers?
#13
Forgot to mention, don't forget to wrap up, long sleeves, gloves and trousers as this stuff can be really itchy and irratable if it comes in contact with your skin. Well advised to do it in the winter also as in the summer it's like a hot house in the loft squeezing it into the corners, whilst lying flat on your chest balancing on tread boards! Sounds like great Sunday afternoon fun to me!
#14
Might suit some if already about 200mm - also easier to get in car!!
#15
Will be down my local focus tomorrow. The previous owners dumped loads of polystyreine instead of proper insulation so hopefuly will really notice the difference. Best buy few rolls of bin bags too ;-)

I doubt you will get any grant - the reason for the B&Q rolls being cheap is that it is subsidised by British Gas. British Gas are using this promotion (well their part of the subsidy) so that they can achieve their EU carbon off-setting requirements - as such a further grant would effectively be a double claim. Sorry, I haven't explained it very well!

As for a price comparison - check what meterage you get with both the B&Q deal and the wickes deal - the 200mm thicknesses are usually half the length of the 100's (so you need twice as much!). On the face of it, the Wickes deal appears to be the better one.

Focus lost the sale to b&q because they had the rudest girl on the phone ever! Refused to find out how much 1 pack will cover, so I had no way of knowing whether I need 1 pack or 100. B&Q on the other hand were polite and helpful.
#19
the problem with all these deals is that
- they are instore only
- you have to arrange for your own transport

i went to B&Q this morning to check the deal, and the lady said i cannot order for delivery. I have to have my own transport.
do they expect everyone coming there to have a Ford-Transit type car for carrying home stuff?
the cab company i contacted was not ready to carry this stuff and the van guy was charging £70.
so in the end, i decided to give this a miss and go for Wickes BOGOF deal with £5 delivery charge.

Just been to Focus in Amesbury (Wiltshire) - they have a slightly different deal.

You get a 100mm thick roll (same as the £1.15 deal) but it has13.9m2 on the roll for £2.79 - still works out at 20p per m2 but bigger rolls.
#21
What's the Wickes deal that some have been mentioning?

I've looked at their website and the best they can offer, taking into account Buy-1-Get-1, is £2.50ish per square metre :-(
#22
got six roll of the space blanket stuff £2.79 (13m coverage) the shorter roll is just the el cheapo rockwool
#23
Went to look for this this morning, but my local had a different deal. £13ish bogof and only 1.97m2 per pack on space ones! Going to try a larger store later, but no doubt I'll be too late. :-( Don't really want the itchy stuff from b&q.

It could be worth asking. At my local they had signs up saying they were BOGOF £21.99 but went through the till at £2.79. Its the 100mm Space combi roll.

I called at my local Focus this morning - they'd never heard of the deal and when they looked through their emails to find out - they had none anyway.
They could order me three in at the discounted price - but that turns out to be £6.99! Forget it, i said...
#26
My focus knew nothing about this either but were keen to sell me a triple size roll of itchy rockwool for £20!
Gave it a miss.
#27
Heat added. Super deal, only 40p/sq.m if you double it up to 200mm thickness against the B&Q deal at 58p/sq.m for 200mm thick.

This deal is more than 30% cheaper than B&Q.

Plenty of stock in Lowestoft - I bought 10 rolls

If it's of any use - you can get 5 rolls in a Ford Focus at a squeeze with the seats folded down (4 in the back and 1 on the passenger seat)

Tried my next shop. Got some of the Rockwool one, 5.76m2 for £1.15 a roll, as they had sold out of the space one. Person in the shop said it wasn't an itchy type & didn't need mask gloves etc as it was made from recycled wool. :? So happily took it away only to find that's not what it says on the pack. Feel like a bit of an idiot now. Still at least it was cheap. Will have to get OH to put it in. :whistling:

Oh yes, and only managed to get 3 rolls in the car at a time (+ a passenger).
#29
Cheers for this, went to my local focus yesterday. Nine rolls for just over a tenner

By the way my local focus is at Midsomer Norton
#30
Out of stock everywhere I try :(
#31
I went to harrogate store late this afternoon, they had sold out, but were taking orders for 54 rolls of 100m that are coming in next week, I ordered 14 rolls, which was limit per customer, might have to make a few trips in my Astra though. It might be worth asking at you local store to see if they are getting anymore stock.
