Being a bike, I'm pretty sure it's a necessity :p

The point being it is around twice the weight of a standard Brompton. OK a fraction of the price but if the reason you are buying a folding bike is to take it on the train/bus/up the stairs etc then only weight-lifters would feel happy with carrying anything heavier for any distance.

Oh and you might need good thighs/knees to get it up an incline. Just depends why you want a folder. Be sure this really fits your needs. You can get a better handling/comfort and performance from a non-folder for the same price. Or you can pay much more for something that is comfortable, robust and you can easily pedal further than the end of the street.

If you want a really cheap & simple folder to go in the boot - check out the IKEA model they gave away to employees some years ago. They occasionally go for under £100 on fleabay.

Hence voted cold.
