Not a preorder anymore as it's been released. Cheapest that I've seen by a country mile. But......I've never heard of Shopto.net or bought from them. Anyone out there confirm that they are trustworthy and legit? First one to confirm one way or the other will be getting some Rep.

Great Price but reading the reviews on Amazon, seems alot of people had problems with installing the game:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/product/B001FA0DLK/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt/277-9858166-7998242?_encoding=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

The copy protection on this game is INSANE. Every copy we sold came back nearly with people complaining.

If you buy this, factor in a couple of days for shipping and then a FEW DAYS while you send off files to the developers and get a "custom patch" sent back just because your computer has a dvd burner...

My god!! Just read the Amazon reviews. I won't be buying this game then. Thanks for the advice guys. Rep added for saving me £20

ShopTo are more than legit. They get most of my custom now and are mainly cheaper than Play. Also delivery is next day and free, compared to Play's 3-5 days. They are the best company on the net IMO as regards games go.
#11
Shopto are probably the best games seller on the net currently.

As for the Amazon reviews, the majority are absolute **** and an overreaction from the community about the DRM, of which works very well if you have an up to date PC. Regardless 99.9% of the problems have now been fixed with the new patch.

yeah reading the views I dont know if I should get this or not. In the end, like it or not people will find a way round the copy protection on this (i think they already have looking at torrent and the like) and by making the validation process so tough they are needlessly punishing everyone and treating everyone as if they are pirates. This shows a complete lack of respect for their purchasers, I only wish there was a viable alternative..

If you weren't aware, due to the unpresidented number of gamers trying to activate their Football Manager 09 on the day of release, on Steam (the first time the game has been played via the Steam platform) there were a lot of problems and delays. This led to lots and lots of ****** off nerds spamming review sites with such rubbish found on the Amazon site.

The game works perfectly, amazing price, ordered one, thx a lot.
#15
Most of the activation issues are sorted-however a lot of peoples graphics cards are struggling, make sure you have a 128mb graphics card

I doubt there will be a way around it, the reason the game is now hosted on Steam is to ensure only legitimate versions can be played.

How is the validation process hard? Simply tap in your CD-Key type validation code during/after installation as you did with games such as The Sims etc....

Great price for before Xmas!
#18
the installation problem was because the company they worked with had major issues with their network on the day of release.

I bought mine yesterday and got it installed in 10 minutes
#19
Good to hear they have sorted it anyway...do you need the cd in everytime you play it? It was kind of annoying having to get the cd from my bro for FM 2008 just to load it everytime, ended up gettin a no-cd patch.
#20
i've a top spec PC and my game continually crashes.
I've not managed more than 2 weeks of playing.
I've logged my complaint to SI but with no resposne.
£20 is good price - on the market.
In reality it's a waste of money

I don't think so, the majority of games on Steam don't need the CD inserted in order to play, but i'm not 100% certain on that.

Sounds like a problem with your graphics card, make sure your drivers are upto date, and re-install FM.

I do love FM My mates and I had many an all-nighter last year playing, but it is a bit annoying when they release games with bugs I remember last year with all the disallowed goals and I hear this year its injuries (both fixed with patches I know). But I suppose thats commonplace these days...

All the problems regarding activation have been sorted, the problems happened on the first day or two when servers screwed up as they couldn't cope with the traffic. As for graphic issues if you plan on using the 3d match engine they make sure you use the latest patch as it fixes several issues.

Apart from that its a great game!

you can choose two options to install this game either when inserting the disk, you can activate and install via steam or via phone line. Either way you will not require the disk to play the game.

I would recommend installing via Steam as its quick now problems have been dealt with. Many once installing with Steam find they are missing the editor and other files for the game. So uninstall from Steam once activated and reinstall from disk again, but choose the phone option. It will not need activating again but install all files direct to machine including the editor.

A little bit of research and you could actually get this game FREE from any decent torrent site...

Hmm...
Searching for "Football Manager" on my favourite torrent site, I found out that working cracked versions were released as far back as the 14th!

Extra validation / DRM on games only drive away legit customers... and don't even remotely affect those who get them illegally.

This is a deals site not a theft site.

And SI were supposed to release a game, not a security system....

Save your money. We have an 18 month old laptop & can't get the game to install properly. Nor have we managed to get any answers to sort it.
#31
I got this game the day it was released (newsgroup). It came with fix incorparated. Works perfectly fine on my laptop. Even in 3D. Nice game!
#32
Just received today. Ordered Friday and received today. Great service. Game is working perfectly.
banned#33
Great game. I got it on release date for £23 so this is a good deal.

I did not have any problems, OK it took 15-20 minutes to install and dowload a new patch, but dont think that is too bad.
#34
got this game and had not one problem with it. installed on vista and work perfect thanks

I'm just wondering if people are misreading the install instructions?:whistling:

That's because you have a 1 year and a half old laptop that will barely play any game, let alone FM09.

People like these annoy the hell out of me. It's blatently their end that is the fault. :geek:
