that graphics card is ****, it cant match a 8800gt for anything. but a 4850 on the other hand......
#3
Good price although this does have the slightly inferior DDR3 Ram versus DDR4 seen on many models.

Rubbish.
Check out Tom's Hardware and you'll see why you're wrong.

Actually at £65 that is a bloody good buy. A 4850 will still set you back £110, which is nearly double the price. So If you are not wanting to splash out and still get very good performance this is a hot buy for a new card.

Is this better value than a £50 HD3850 512mb gDDR3?

http://www.tekcomputersuk.com/xpertvision-512mb-radeon-3850-express-graphics-card-retail-p-105413624.html

Anyone used tekcomputersuk or eurowidePC? Any idea on delivery rates?

EDIT: Also, I take it this is probably a OEM version, and will it still have a dual slot cooler?

The lisiting says retail boxed not OEM?

Looks like the same card to me :)

dont make such strong comments when you have such little knowledge on these products
also consider the price vs performance of this item

I paid £66 for a Sapphire 3850 two or three weeks back - Wish I had waited!

Good Deal

But if you check the review the clock frequencies ont hat card is superior to this one!
825MHz/2400MHz DDR4 VS 775MHz/1800MHz DDR3(this card of the deal)
Not putting it down i still think for the price it's a bargain, but to be fair the card is different with clock speeds and memory which means it will suffer a bit. .

just ordered, was a little concerned as it's not a vendor I have heard a lot about or used before but hopefully should be good!

I have one of these card sin a gaming rig with E8400 and it absolutely eats anything I throw at it, this is a great deal for an excellent card. WTF you could even buy 2 of these for the cost of a GT/GTS....hot hot hot!

thats only a 3dmark 06 score, ati has always been good at getting a good 3d mark score, whle playing games, that card is useless compared to the 8800gt. plus the 4850 is only 1 month old and it is WAY better the the 3870.
4850 is a best buy if you want to play games as its 1 month old and beats 9800gtx and 9800gtx+ which cost a lot more. plus its DX10.1, GDDR3 compared to DDR3 and has other better future proof things. plus its smaller so it fits easier and you get less problems.

http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=703&p=8

the only reasonn you would buy a £65 3870 is if you want to play games, and if you do its useless and you need a 4850 which is easily the best price/proformance GPU, check any site.

A 9600gt is comparable with a 3870, while the 9600gt is still slightly better, smaller, cooler, and more supported. And it costs less.
why do you think they are selling that card so cheap, its a paper weight.

Yes 4850 > 8800GT > 3870. Thats true for sure.
But when looking at the price, this is still a great buy!
A brand new 4850 is nearly double the amount and the 8800GT another £25 more.
So if you are looking at saving the pennies, while still getting good bang for the buck, this is a good buy.
Also I think the 3870 clock a fair bit as well, especially if you ...

lol the 3870 is not useless, it can still provide a good gaming experience
we know the 4850 is newer and much better
but some peoples' budgets vary and do not want to spend £100+, so calm down..

im using a HD 3870 256MB DDR3 although mines a sapphire i think - i paid £77 6months ago

I can play Crysis and Mass Effect no bother on medium settings with this card. i wanted to keep my gfx card ££ down as upgrading to a better card in a couple of years makes it much more viable to me than spending £100 +.

for that price range, id go for a 8800gts 320mb, its better then the 8800gt which is better then the 3870

and amazon sells it for £69.34 , now thats a bargain :)

Heeeeeey? You do realise the 320 and 640 variants of the 8800 range are way inferior? As they are the first gen. Take a look on line.
#23
8800gts 320mb gets raped by the 8800gt big time. You must be referring to the G92 8800gts 512mb. Now that costs no where near £69.34.

This HD 3870 card is a good buy if you need performance around the 9600gt. Tomshardware benchmarks are **** poor at best, check out more credible websites such as hardocp and anandtech.

The older 8800GTS 320Mb isn't anywhere better than the newer 8800GT 512Mb, which I assume you're referring to.

Marketplace seller actually - works to £74 delivered. If buying, better to get it from Savastore for ~£70 delivered (Quidco too).
#25
Just to make clear, this isn't a real 3870 as it lacks the DDR4 of the proper card. This is probably best described as an overclocked 3850 in reality. Most 3850s will hit those clocks, so you're much better off buying a £50 3850.

And no an 8800GTS 320Mb is considerably slower than the G92 8800GT.

Good call. Didn't realise they did 3870's like that. Kind of underhanded :?
If you can grab a 3850 for £50, is better buy as he says.

ermm any rep please

Why do people want rep?
Does it get you anything tangible? Or do people get a kick from internet kudos?

Anyway, you're having no rep from me, but I think this is a good deal, and I'm kicking myself for going out buying a motherboard that can handle AGP and a Q6600 processor now. If I'd have known I could get something so good for significantly less than £100, I'd have flogged my AGP on ebay, got the better motherboard, and bought this.

And when did "raped" become a word to use in normal conversation? Bloody awful word to just throw in there.

I am offended by your throwaway use of 'Bloody' as well.
#30
have you ever heard of "the rape of the countryside"? is that also an awful use of the word rape? you need to check the dictionary sometime...
#31
Guys,...

#32
Take it easy bro, perhaps my usage of "Raped" did not dictate the proper use of English, but hey, who does ? :p

The 8800GT smokes the 8800GTS 320mb. There u go.
#33
Bloody is as offensive as raped is it? Don't be bloody stupid.

Rape of the countryside might be used to convey the feelings of the commentator about the destruction of something they cherish. I think it's a little over-blown, but can understand where it's coming from.

This graphics card raped that graphics card isn't really comparable.

And I'm fully aware of the dictionary definition, I'm also aware of how emotive a word it is. It's not really comparable to any other word, and shouldn't be used in normal conversation as though it's a normal word - it's not, it describes one of the very worst things that can happen to someone, and not used to say one piece of kit is better than the other.
#34
...and don't get me started on smokes!

I'm joking, I'm joking...

It has been mentioned, and I agree, the 9600GT is a better card than the HD 3870, and closer to the 8800GT, too. £74 on ebuyer all the time.
Of course, "today only" at scan there's a Palit 9600GT for £62.28 (inc delivery if you have hexus). This could possibly be a deal in itself... Might post it. I've been looking to build a new PC, and thought this might be a good deal until the 9800GTX+ or HD 4850 get a bit cheaper...

This card is not as fast as the 8800gt so the guy that said that is right and i know that for a fact ive owned both i still own a XFX 8800gt which i paid £183 for when they first came out last nov/dec and i am a qualified to say that and i dont give a **** what toms hardware says in the real world the 8800gt kills this card diggs it up and kills it again i cant argue about the price a couple of these in crossfire would be a decent gaming setup for £130 i now have a sapphire 4850 in my main rig which is faster still.

Well as this thread has all the graphics card experts in I may as well use your help. My system only has a 300w power supply and I want a new graphics card. I mainly use it for HD films and a bit of video editing and am not much of a gamer. I currently have a 2400HD 128mb and it does struggle at times. I don't want to spend loads of money but will consider anything suitable for my system. The best choices I can come up with are 2600xt ddr4 256mb or the 3650HD ddr3 256mb/512mb. All are around £40-£45 mark.
