Went Cropton (Yorkshire) for a 3 night weekend stay end of Jan 2011 with my hubby & 3 lads (14, 13 & 8 at the time). We all absolutely loved every minute of it. Stayed in a Silver Birch I think with a hot tub, en suite, massive living room, fully fitted kitchen, underfloor heating, backing onto a forest & bbq in garden. For my boys whose ideal weekend is on the PS3/Xbox this was a complete change but they loved it. Went on several walks & relaxed in lodge in evenings. Had a bbq everyday and used fully fitted, very modern & new kitchen also. It was super clean & cosy. Its in the middle of nowhere but perfect for those who want a few days to get away. We paid similar price to above, fairly cheap I'd say for 3 nights away in top accommodation. We took games etc but they had a lovely flat screen TV too with large sofas to chillax on. Highly recommended. Thanks op :)

Only certain times are very cheap. From the end of Oct to just before Christmas are the cheapest usually. I've been to Deepark twice and it's great value. Had a Gold 3 bed with hot tub and log burning fire from Fri-Mon for about £250 mid December just gone.

We usually go with other friends and take our dogs. Note Deerpark now has a bar (OK it shuts at 7pm but you just have to start earlier)

Easy link to all the prices here:

FH price list 2012

And no I don't work there or have any connection - I'm just a dog owner who likes to go away with my dog.
looking at a midweek break on the 15th October in Argyll.
£548!!!!!

Yeah but since when do 6 individually paying people go to stay in a log cabin? Thats not a real life comparison you're making

Friends or family, it's easy enough to get 6 people together especially when you find most are couples anyway so that's only you & OH and then 2 other couples, easy enough to organise and you can even share two cars to save petrol and driving.
How is that not a real life comparison? :|

EDIT: I wouldn't think going on your own to one of these log cabins would be as much fun, so a town or city break would probably suit you better.

just wanted to pop in and say thanks for all the info in this thread - we just got back from the Forest of Dean one in a silver birch and had a great time - it was perfect for a cheap winter break and I'll be looking to do something similar next feb if there are similar deals around.
I'm taking the family back there for a week at the end of Feburary - we only got back a week ago and we all want to go back again!

Staying for longer this time - the only dillema I had was whether to pay the extra £25 to stay in the same cabin we enjoyed last time or to chance it and stay in another cabin. At least you know what to expect if you stay in the same cabin again and little things like peace of mind if your hot-tub isn't overlooked by anybody etc. Needless to say I paid the extra £25 and specified a different cabin this time that directly overlooks the outskits of the forest.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone that has stayed in a Golden Oak Plus that has two floors and two double bedrooms. I went to view one before booking it to see if it would accomodate everyone that would be going. The one BIG thing that REALLY put me off that style of cabin is that the upstairs double bedroom has a large opening in the wall that directly overlooks the lounge with no safety restrictions in place whatsoever. Any young unsupervised kid could easily climb through this gap and fall 20 feet on to the hard wooden floor in the lounge!!!

Has anyone stopped in the deluxe Golden Oak that has the walkway through to the 'Tree House' that has an En-Suite double bedroom? That looks amazing but you pay a premium for it!

They emailed it to me, nothing personal in there, pm me your email address if you want me to forward it to you.

Its not got much info in but it did prompt me to go to the myaccount section to do the online guest registration and orebook some ranger activities for the kids.
where would I find this pdf?
Thanks, that'll do nicely.

I'm just about to set off!! I will take pics.
Just returned from a 4 night stay at Forest of Dean in a Golden Oak, have to say very impressed.

Loved it, Hot tub made it extra special.
Will be returning, or trying out another site.

I emailed them and they said that my particular cabin (Cabin 59) doesn't have a log burner.. gutted.. when i booked this i had 3 cabins to choose from, wish i'd have known that some do and some don't have log burners. Never mind, it's not too much of a trauma lol. Yes, I saw your pics, they're great.. really can't wait!

Ohh...i didnt realise some of the silver birch had them and some hadnt! We were lucky then. You never know....someone might cancel and you can see if there is one with a log burner. Worth asking in my opinion. :D

Oh well, 3 day's to go and we're on our way to our Silver Birch in Keldy.

Can anyone confirm if there's a woodburner in the Silver Birch? and if we need to take out own fuel for that.

Think we will book the bicycles for the weekend, is there a nice bicycle track? wouldn't want to book one then have no-where to go on it lol.

VERY excited!

Yes the silver birch in keldy has a log burner. Go to home bargains and buy the logs from there for 99p each. They last for 2 hours which heats the place up toasty warm. Take a look at my other listing in the link in my post as I have some pics on there from when I went last year! Enjoy.... we go to argyll in 2 weeks and looking forward to it too!

Spoke to them on the phone and they were very helpful and have refunded the £37. Looks like it is a glitch on the website.
Great log cabins, but would sack whoever does there web marketing, always have to end up phoning them to get correct prices.
I booked a Silver Birch in Strathyre for Janaury as the phone line was closed. I will phone them tomorrow about getting the £37 refunded
jayok
It charges me the £25 specific cabin request and the 2 x Ranger activities. Anyone else getting charged?

Yeah it's not coming off for me either...just give them a call!

I went in Jan, loved it. I got 4 days for £73 tho, makes this deal seem kind of pricey as most of prices on the site are 170 quid +

I know! I went to the Deerpark Cabins in Jan when we got all that snow...was perfect!

I've paid £160 for 4 nights in the Forest of Dean...this time with a hot tub....can't wait!

i have been to one of these parks, in argyle. it was excellent. but i paid alot less than what this deal will cost.

the minimum cost of this will be £295, based on 4 people for minimum 4 nights. so the true cost is actually £295

Hi there,

We went to a Forest Holiday Silver Birch cabin last year, we left after 2 nights - it was filthy, the toilets were totally disgusting, there was a filthy mop in the cupboard stinking the whole hall out, there was someones sock under the bed, blood on the sheets in the kids room. Hairs in the freezer and a toenail on the dining room chair, there is more but I'd best leave the moaning there!! When we told the Manager, he got a team in to clean it from top to bottom even after the massive clean (during which time we had to vacate our cabin for a whole day) it was still disgusting when we went back in. So we left.

I wouldn't recommend at any price. Sorry.

Just new here today, sorry if this post is 'inappropriate' in anyway, I just wanted to make people aware of the trouble I had - it was in Strathyre.

Clearly other people are recommending it and I am only one person with one bad experience - I probably shouldn't have said anything at all.

Apologies.

Hi

We just got back home from Strathyre and our cabin, a Golden Oak wasn't particularly clean either. Luckily, one of the cleaners happened to be in our cabin just after our arrival to put up a mirror that was on the floor and happened to have a cloth on her so was able to clean up the sticky sweet I had just stood on on the kitchen floor which must have been there for some time as it took her ages to get it all up, otherwise that would have been my job, and not a great start to a relaxing holiday! We did get some towels a few hours later as they had forgot to put some in. Two pillows were ripped with the stuffing coming out and the smell of the place wasn't too great. Luckily I had packed 2 scented candles, which I would recommend doing.

........... will write some more later when unpacked

Terms and conditions are unrealistic these days - 2% surcharge for credit card booking, 15 days for cheque payment, £30 deposit non-returnable.
Go to a "Camping & Caravanning Club" site at least they don't close-up the toilet during the winter.
Love camping and this is a great price

I stayed at deerpark in Feb this year with the girlfriend and we both loved it. Especially jumping in the hot tub on a freezing cold night with a bottle of wine. Gonna be booking up again soon had a really good holiday and all the staff were very friendly. The only downside was the staff had to come in once a day to put a chlorine pill in the hot tub however that only took 2 minutes and wasn't a major inconvenience.
Sorry to bump an old thread but looking to book either cropton or deerpark in November and wondered if anyone had inside info on up coming discounts etc for some of these top log cabins with hot tubs....
Hi has anyone joined their membership club I was wondering about joining
I went to Deerpark in December. What a bargain. Proper get away from it all location. No mobile phone signal and no light pollution at night so you can really see the stars on a clear night.

We actually saw a deer and the dogs loved it too. I recommend the duck race for comedy value with the Ranger's dog chasing them down the stream (they're not real ducks BTW.) We'll be back later this year I suspect when the prices are low again.
Just came back from a four night break in Deerpark. Absolutely stunning views and a beautifully clean cabin. Helpful staff and a great sense of getting away from it all. We went fr day trips to the little Coastal villages and the Eden Project. There was plenty to do. We played on some of the supplied board games in the evenings - Scrabble mostly! There was also a Wii in the cabin, Dvd player and a LCD tv with HDMI out so I could hook up the laptop for blu rays.

The cabin was pet friendly but was very clean. I loved the hot tub at night! It was so liberating. It's not like Centre Parcs and thank god it isn't. Peace and quiet.
