Just been looking at the Silverstone web site and thought this might be of interest to anyone who want to experience F1 without paying British Grand Prix prices. They are doing tickets for the F1 test days between Tuesday 24th - Thursday 26th June. £12 in advance, £15 on the day. No indication of which teams will be there.

Brilliant - thank you. My kids have an inset day on the 24th June and kids go free! This could be a great thing to go to. Now just have to persuade them that they love F1 as much as I do! lol!

Testing is always better than the race, also you can walk around many of the circuits corners, and if you are fast you can run over the bridge past the marshals and view from the inside of the track
#4
Looks a good deal

The British gp is just over a week later so the top teams should be there:)
#5
Very good spot cpg looks like a good day out for £12 i also have 2 kids i will take them with me if they are free voted hot and rep added
#6
yea all the teams will be there, and 90% of the drivers
#7
im SOOOOOOOO tempted to go but will be a 3 hour drive for us and would have a 7 year old (likes f1) and a nearly 3 year old.. .not sure how our 3 year old would cope. i love F1 and would be great to go. Last year each of the ferrari drivers was testing each day, think it was their test driver day 1, massa day 2 and raikkonen day 3. would be fantastic if i went the day kimi was testing but just being there would be great.
#8
Who in their right mind would want to see ferrari? ;)
#9
Kovalainen will have to be there for all the days...

Testing the "Dont press the speed pit limit Button" :whistling: :-D

or its £129.87 for the Sunday pass for the real GP,,,

Personly i went for the german GP early birds 3 day pass for 48ish quid :)

But this is a good price to hear the beast live....

I imagine it would be very, very noisy for a 3yo?

Just after my GCSE's finish and just down the road from me... hmmm.....

Great find! Snapped up 3 tix! Does anyone know how the testing works over 3 days? Is there a better day to go? Are you more likely to see some good stuff on any one particular day?

can not tell for sure but as allready said "most the time" it will test driver one day then one of the main drivers on the next day then the other main driver hte day after than. but this is mid season testing so you might get all 3 or you might get non ( normally the first day a team "might miss" ) but is its just before the Brithish GP i dount any will not show up. I would go for the middle day myself test drivers "normally" on the first or last day. the at least you should at least see one of the normal dorvers out of each team...

but whos to tell :)

Voted Hot, ordered 2 tickets. Thanks -great post.

Well we will have to go on the Tuesday as the kids are off school that day. Your not exactly going to see who's driving as they whizz past I wouldn't have thought! It will just be great to experience the noise and feel of being at a grand prix circuit.
Was lucky enough to go to Monza 4 years ago and also went to the London show type thing a few years back.
#18
Just trying to book now. It says it starts at 08:00hrs. Is that right?!!!!!
#19
Normally do installation laps about 9.

My mate works for Force India so ill find out what happening for the test and let you know
#20
2 years ago this was free.

Sod them.

btw, you are not guaranteed any teams will turn up, or if they do, what if any laps will be done, it's a private test, which is why the notion of them trying to turn it into an event by charging is pathetic.

Also, you'll most likely only be able to access the 3 or 4 corners at the very end of the lap, the rest is close to spectators.

That said, if you've never seen an F1 car live, do it. But be aware this isn't a hot deal, this is them screwing you. It's not much more to go to Friday of the real Grand Prix and you'll get to see all the real drivers and teams that way, plus the GP2 and Porsche Supercup.

Yeah, I'm going to the Bahrain GP. I have the flight and 3 day grandstand seats and a pit walkabout on Thurs for not much more than it costs for startline seats for 3 days at Silverstone, parking, travel etc

Silverstone is a horrible circuit with 60s facilities at joke prices, it really REALLY needs the planned redev.
#22
I seem to remember last year being something like £10 per day, or £15 for all three. Shame that's doubled now, still good to go and watch though.

When/how did you get that!?

And 2006 and every single year before that was £0.

Sadly it appears their experiment to charge for nothing was successful.

I should point out this is not the poster's fault, he didn't know this.

best to keep looking on the f1.com website ticket section just after the season ends
#26
Yeah, the Bahrain tickets were about £60 and that's by no means the cheapest 3 day. It's pretty much only Britain that's a ripoff.
#27
I went last year & it was a tenner on the gate. You can watch from Bridge round to the last Grandstand on the main straight. A lot of the 'gift' stalls will be open & there are loads of food/drink facilities. There is no guarantee which teams & drivers will be there, it's totally pot luck. Runs from about 0900 to 1630 with a lunch break of about 1hour
#28
I didn't know it free or cheaper in previous years but I do know that I would not pay full price to see the GP so this seems like a reasonable alternative if you want to see F1 cars in the flesh.
#29
Bloody annoying, as I'm on there fairly regularly! Just checked on there, Bahrain is still cheap as chips now...

I was supposed to be going to either Spa or Monza this year, Monza is significantly cheaper, however it now turns out that, despite booking holiday, I might no be able to go Grrr...

Maybe I should point out I'm not blaming the OP, merely passing comment?

This is an awesome deal. i went to silverstone for the race a couple of years ago and it was amazing to see the speed and hear how loud it actually is.
#32
Yep I've been going to Silverstone testing many years and its been absolutely free. Shame to see them trying to cash in on the Hamilton factor, but at the end of the day £10 to see F1 cars live is not bad value, £15 is a tad too much though, but then again I'd never pay for a GP ticket anyways, totally over-priced IMO, how do you think Bernie got so rich?

His dashing good looks?? :-D
#34
a weekend would have been good, but then the price wouldn't have been lol
#35
Voted Hot - thanks

does anyone know if there's any further charges, parking?

any more tips from anyone who has been to these days would be welcome
#36
It is a great day out and whilst it is galling that they are now charging for something that was free previously, it is still a cheap day out. You are watching world class sportsmen and their cars. I went last year and found it slightly frustrating that the circuit was only open from Bridge through to Copse and the infield was shut unless you had a pass. No idea how you get a pass though!

A distinct lack of spectator marshalls so you could get right up against the debris fencing to take decent photographs
#37
anyone know which day is likely to have the most going on... Tues or Thurs? Thanks
#38
anyone know which part of the circuit is open to public? need to take decent piccies lol
#39
This used to be totally free. I remember going a couple of times around the time of the F&M outbreak. We were limited to where on the track we could go - it was the bend just before the pit straight, can't remember it's name.
#40
Why is this a good deal? It used to be free 2 years ago. Voted cold.
