All the copies seem to be in a fancy box too!

Chris Morris' Four Lions is a funny thrilling comedy that illuminates modern jihadism through the prism of farce. It understands jihadists as human beings. And it understands human beings as innately ridiculous. What This Is Spinal Tap did for heavy metal and Dr Strangelove the Cold War Four Lions does for the modern face of terrorism. In a British city four men have a secret plan. Omar (Riz Ahmed) is disillusioned about the treatment of muslims around the world and is determined to become a soldier. This is the most exciting idea Waj (Kayvan Novak) has ever heard. Better still it's a no brainer because Omar does his thinking for him. Opposed to Omar and everyone else on earth is the white islamic convert Barry (Nigel Lindsay). He'd realize he joined the cell to channel his nihilism - If he had half the self knowledge of a duck. Faisal (Adeel Akhtar) is the odd man out. He can make a bomb - but he can't blow himself up just now coz his sick dad has started eating newspaper. Instead he's training crows to fly bombs through windows. This is what Omar has to deal with. They must strike a decisive blow on their own turf but can any of them strike a match without punching himself in the face? Four Lions plunges us beyond seeing these young men as unfathomably alien. It undermines the folly of just wishing them away or even worse alienating the entire culture from which they emerge. The film is neither pro nor anti religious. The jokes fly out of the characters' conflicts excesses and mistakes. Crackling with wit and tension Four Lions is the essential response to our failure to engage with reality and a high toast to the idea that laughter is better than killing.

Fantastic film.

You have to cheer and clap when he blows himself up in the field --Gora and Kala , Goree and Kali are considered sub-human .
White liberal guilt again lets Islam off the hook , they all want the infidel dead --man , woman and child , similar to another idiom going round in the 1940's --Chamberlain let it go -because they said they wouldn't do any harm .
Very real , but lets see if theres a cheap deal on baked beans instead.

A "comedy" about islamic terrorists.
Wow. no surprise the dicks involved this this, either.
Chris Morris, a man whose ego is measured in parsecs, whose talent is measured by electron microscope.
Loved by the Guardian-reader types, and praised by people who read what the Guardian SAYS
Fantastic ? Only if you find terrorism funny.

Not quite sure what is going on in this post. Quite a lot of pent up emotions and something about baked beans?

Well done for missing the point so spectacularly. I take it comedy should only be based in non-offensive settings? The best comedies act to address a serious issue at the same time as entertaining the viewer. See the whole of Bill Hicks' work, Richard Pryor, or Brass Eye, The Day Today, etc.

This is a fantastic film. Certainly not to everyone's tastes. But in reality true excellence is subjective, and had the film tried to cater to the mass audience then it would have been a much duller, more sanitised offering.

It can also be found for a fiver at Amazon if you can not find it in-store.

The Day Today and Brass Eye are two of the greatest comedies ever to come out of Britain. But you stick to Family Guy

Agreed-- Day to Today and Brass Eye captured the zeitgeist .
This film ,albeit in a clever way , tries to pardon the thoughts of the majority of Pakistani Muslims in the UK (notice how they bring in a white male to bring liberal guilt to the fore) .
If you live and work in a major city in the UK you will understand .

Each to their own but personally I think someone isn't in a position to criticise Chris Morris when their idea of good comedy is a man who says 'Giggity'

No-ones allowed an opinion, haven't any of you lot learnt that?

Thought i do love Chris Morris..

highly stereotypical film which shows Muslims as being dumb, the funny thing is that Muslims love the film so I guess the director was right at his portrayal of them.

"White liberal guilt again lets Islam off the hook" - what do people like you think you can do to Islam even if you tried Mr EDL? - You nato troops have lost both Iraq and Afganistan! And they are only 2 muslim countries.

Absolute crap coming out your mouth makes people even more angry. Its a film deal with it IDIOT!

This film wasn't pro Muslim terrorists...it depicts a few misguided idiots, one of them is a white British thug type (who should belong to the BMP or any other cause that likes a bit of agro) and they are all led by the sort of chap that simpletons like to follow unquestionably as to them he souinds like he knows what he is on about...the climax at the end is when the leader finally questions what he is doing, only for it to be to late for his mates and himself.

It didn't show Muslims as being dumb....it showed a minority of dumb and miss guided Muslims....it's a bit like this is England in as much as out-casts need to fit into a group

It was a poor attempt at being a comedy. At least this film "attempts" to show the truth.

Gotta love how one way or another posting a deal for this film always sparks pathetic arguments, albeit from either muslims who dont have a funny bone or from frustrated movie nerds.

I love it.
Every time a Four Lions deal gets posted, all the Daily Mail type readers (which the majority haven't actually seen this film) get on their high horses.

If you like Chris Morris and his humour, you should enjoy this. If it's not to your tastes, don't buy it, don't comment on the thread just keep on moving.

Could you please advise how you managed to read the thoughts of "the majority of Pakistani Muslims in the UK"?
I would love to purchase this technology for my own twisted ends.
Thanks in advance (a link would be useful).

I disagree.
The outpourings are usually from narrowminded right wing extremists. Religion or nationality being irrelevent by this stage.

I read the daily mail and I thought this film was funny! controversial I suppose it is as I did have some sympathy for the terrorists towards the end but they were shown as stupid because terrorists actually are stupid with their misguided faith which they believe gives them the right to commit these atrocities - I do also like to have a look at the **** in the daily star

Can't remember where I was reading it but supposedly the stupidity of the plotters in the film was typical of the many attacks that have been foiled. The director did some research with people and was shocked at how stupid some of the people arrested were and their infantile plots. That says a lot about the mentality of "some" of the people who plan such attacks albeit not all of them of course as I'm quite sure that anybody with basic knowledge and a strong enough desire could cause a whole lot of harm.

It makes me laugh how people talk about the mentality of British Muslims or Pakistani's and feel that this film puts them in too good a light and at the opposite by people who feel that it is offensive. If you truly hate terrorism then perhaps you should read about the atrocities our own country has participated in, I'm not talking about Afghanistan or Iraq I'm referring to our active support of Indonesia and Suharto for an active example. Hundreds upon thousands of people killed with the active and direct support militarily, economically and strategically by the "West". Read some investigative journalism by Pilger or Chomsky or wiki some of the stuff if you want. I think its fairly hypocritical to take the holier-than-thou stance though and feel that this film did its job perfectly well as it is creating this room for debate.

One of the funniest movies you'll ever see if you have the ability to watch a movie without thinking there is a political agenda being drilled into you.
#40
It's the holier-than-thou attitude that gets at me above all else though, Britain's movements fought tooth and nail for women's rights, children's rights, civil rights, and the same thing occurred in the USA. Neither country can be described as saying they are pro gay rights but even if they were it won't come overnight. Was it the 70's movements in the USA where it was finally legal for interracial marriages to occur? But people are either too young to know or ignorant, change in other countries comes progressively and not from others intervening militarily. Change has to come from within.
