I have started learning classical guitar recently so was in the market for a reasonable quality beginner guitar. Framus aren't exactly a household name but they have a decent reputation in Europe for making well constructed instruments (think they are now owned by Warwick). Price is 49 euros which works out about £38. It gets good ratings on their site and I'm hoping that at the very least it will be better than your lidl and aldi belters!

It's also worth noting that if you write reviews on thomann they will send you vouchers as a reward! I used 15 euros of vouchers to put towards this.

I"m interested in the construction. What material is the top ("die Decke) made of?
Is it solid spruce (Fichte), or laminated (Furnier)?

Its a solid spruce top. It's gone up in price a bit since i posted it. I wrote a review of mine on their website.

It's getting there slowly but surely.
