Sinatra was not only a consummate artist and a supreme stylist with a distinctive delivery but he was also highly prolific. His substantial catalogue of recordings, including 33 top 10 albums, has swelled with this six-CD boxset of rare American radio performances and soundtrack recordings including many previously unreleased alternate takes. The first three discs chart his years as a proto-pop phenomena during the 1940s when he wowed the bobbysoxers as the 'sultan of swoon' and made the first of more than 40 movies. The remainder chronicles the years 1953-64 during his unchallenged reign as king of the crooners. These tracks, many of which were arranged by the incomparable Nelson Riddle, treat his voice as a solo instrument and, as such, they demonstrate Sinatra's flawless phrasing and innate sense of swing. Although he often affects a casual, off-hand manner it's clear from the outtakes that he was a perfectionist who seduced a song until it surrendered to his charm until both singer and song were as inseparable as lovers.

Obviously one for the Sinatra collector's, this set is also a must for anyone who loves Sinatra's contribution to the Hollywood songbook. Outstanding.
