My first post, hope ive done it ok, i think this guy is really funny from what ive seen.

Critically acclaimed comedian Frankie Boyle presents his hotly-anticipated first live stand-up DVD. Recorded live during his sell-out shows at London's Hackney EMpire, Frankie's unique brand of observational comedy and brutal but perfectly constructed one-liners prove he is one of the best gag writers in the business.
As the stand-up act on top-rated satirical comedy show Mock The Week, the sharp-suited Scotsman shows us just a slice of what he;s capable of. In this DVD he unleashes his razor-sharp wit upon the audience with jokes that are too near the knuckle for TV, constantly venturing onto thin ice with outrageous jibes that could be utterly offensive if not delivered with equal measures of visceral cheek sarcasm, demonstrating the full force of his comic prowess.

Thanks just saved me some dosh:thumbsup:

He was very very funny though. Always a good comedian that reduces me to tears resulting in me missing some of the jokes!

The bit about grand designs and having £4 - so I thougth I'd paint the door - was the bit that did it for me.

Good price, but still too much for oft-repeated jokes.

I saw him in Bradford recently, and was disgusted at how poor the show was, as pretty much all the jokes had been said on TV before.

Look for his reviews on Chortle, and you'll see numerous people saying the same thing.

won't be delivered in time for xmas

I find his material and style a bit too abrasive, but not in an offensive sort of way...just grating.

Most comedians recycle their stuff over and over. I saw Jimmy Carr on Live At the Apollo a year ago and then watched him do the same stuff on other TV programmes and on his DVD at the time.

These comedians have a routine that they deliver over and over again, it's a standard way they work. A bit like a group doing a concert and delivering their set, but you wouldn't go and watch U2 (for example) and complain because they played the same songs as you heard on your MP3 on the way there. I saw Robin Williams do a turn on a talk show and then a couple of days later do exactly the same stuff at the Royal Command perfomance.

The ones that can truly ad-lib are rare, and jokes that you know are coming just aren't jokes anymore.

True, but Boyles warm up guy admitted they'd been doing the same show for over 18 months.

One act per year is fairly standard, but that is just taking the mick.

Lol at repetitive comedians, most of you probably like Peter Kay though......

PK is the worst in the world for the same old, same old.

Not my cup of tea.

I think most comedians repeat themselves over and over!
Agreed PK is one of the worst

Most people will not like him but at least Chubby brown shows are different each time, just with a couple of repeated jokes!

If you want a decent stand up dvd, i would recommend Either Frank Skinner or Michael McIntyre's latest offerings

£6.93 @ The Hut minus the 5% quidco = £6.58!

I saw the great Jerry Sadowitz a few months ago and amongst other things he called FB he said "Stop watering down my act" :-)

Agreed....same jokes allover again...
#24
I disagree. You will find a lot of stuff on this dvd too offensive to find on TV anywhere. I would definitely recommend it at this price!

Agreed.
Tim Vine is also a good bet, if you like his style of humour (check out Youtube for clips)

Not only one of the best comics, but one of the worlds best close-up magicians.

This is good, I think he is so funny. It's the same with all comedians though, they tend to recycle their stuff. Worth it though for the odd hidden gem

Dara O'Briain is up there right now but for me the funniest comic around right now is Stephen K. Amos. First saw him on Live At The Apollo 12 months ago and he was by far the funniest act on it.

I've just found out that Amos is on tour near me next Feb and John Shuttleworth's on the week before too. Might have to get tickets for both.

thanks op

I find Frankie Boyle hilarious. There is some different stuff within the DVD (unless i've missed any on TV).

I think people are expecting too much of a Comedian to have one stand up tour, a TV series and appearing on the likes of live at the Apollo and not to repeat any of the jokes in such a short period of time.

I quite like the fact that having missed some of Mock The Week and Live at the Apollo, I can watch all the jokes in one go. Think of it like a greatest hits album (and let's face it, some artists release their greatest hits over and over!).

Why even read the thread let alone post in it if you are offended by him?

Agreed...........Amos, "Gorilla, gorilla, gorilla" in a club at 2 am, while drunk ,sounds funny. The next day, in the light of day, it just sounds racist.......... He said it.
