Was a Steak and Kidney man 'til I tried the Steak and Ale pie.

Even better!

Stock up:w00t:

Even if they were 1p Fray Bentos pies would be a bad deal. I mean, have you ever tried to eat one? The contents of my babies nappy is much more appealing. Just my opinion.
#3
Do people still eat these?

Accompanied by a dollop of Smash and a Watneys Party Seven?
#4
Nostalgia in a pie-shaped can!

We only had these when my mum & dad had some spare cash - at the time, they were a real treat. Even now, we rarely have them, but when we do, I eat them with a big smile on my face.

Heat & rep!

Cracking Value and they are really good.

God are these vile 1970's pies still about .? Makes me want a Vesta Curry.............NOT
#7
Asda are doing same deal. Not the most nutritious of food, but great when you cant be arsed preparing anything

We all know there's nothing good in these pies.

But a little chunk of nostalgia makes me keep one (probably long out of date) at the back of the cupboard to remind me of tea at my grandad's house.

Voted hot, because they're a British institution! It'd be like voting the Queen or the Beefeaters cold! :whistling:

I grew up abroad, and my dad would go crazy when he could find these, and now I know why. We came from humble Black Country mining workers and he was generous with everything, my mom was a fantastic cook, but he'd barely let me have a bite of his steak & kidney pie, it was like he'd found gold..

I thought they were good then, and this was about 30 years ago.

The pastry looks kind of wierd when you open the tin, but man-o-man.....is it ever good when it's done.

I saw this the other day and bought two (because I could eat 20 ) and never thought about posting it.

It is a good deal and tonight, I did look for them while shopping, but I restrained myself.

A guilty pleasure.....

Hot.

Mmmmm..... pies!

thanks :-D

On viewing this deal I can't make the decision between murder or suicide.

Growing up with good, home cooked food, this isn't the kind of thing I ever expected to like, and they don't measure up to my Grandma's minced beef pie with shortcrust pastry, but man their steak and kidney is still damn tasty.

If you don't want to buy 2, I noticed my local Wilkinson's were selling these at £1 each yesterday, I expect it's nationwide. Works out to the same price though.
#15
The only thing these are good for is to make giant yorkshire puddings in the tin afterwards. I've had my tins year and still going strong.

Pies are god awful though, there's around 1000 calories per pie.

Hey I thought of a new game! buy a shotgun and play "Fray Pigeon shooting"

Nostalgic tongue burning heat added:thumbsup:
#17
Guess why they are selling them at £1
It put me off them a long time ago when I found most of an eyelid in a steak & kidney pudding, eyelashes and all.
Wouldn't go near them ever again even if they were 1p

I use to work for the company that use to make these things . We use to get them for 35p each and i would still not eat them but the wife loves them . The afternoon shift had a high number of lisbians on it and the line got the name of gay bentos .

Admit it, you didn't tell anyone because you wanted them all for yourself

Can't belive the food nazis are in here too!

I had a steak and kidney one of these just recently for the first time in years and it was vile! It smelt (and probably tasted) like dog food, yuk!

My local Netto had these for a pound and also had curry versions too?? No idea what they'll be like?!
#21
hmmm tasty, lips and aholes in brown slop served in tin - pie served in a tin is just wrong people dont do it :o

I've been rumbled........You caught me..........I admit it.............The steak & Ale are awesome.

The trick to heating these, is to open the tin, put the tin right on the hob until it starts to bubble and then put them in a hot oven. It takes 10 minutes off the cooking time and for us Fray Bentos fans, those are minutes we can't wait for.......I like under cooking the pastry just a little so it's mushy inside...........disgustingly delicious.

Forgive me.

Looks like a good deal;-)

To all those who have a problem with this....................................................I'll be eating my fray bentos steak and ale pie's whilst your stood queuing at the soup kitchen next year;-)....................did no one tell you we are in a recession ;-)

Sorely tempted to have a crack at this, 'cause then you could tip out some of the juice to liven up the oven chips  HEAVEN!

Only one drawback that I can see............................"I was just doing what some guy on the forum suggested darling" he said, scraping the burnt steak and ale off the hob :w00t:

Perhaps I'll wait until my better half is out ;-)

How cute, the pie was winking at you !..

I don't know if we should be happy, that we're using all of the animal.....or sad, that we use slop in our food.

But it's better then just hacking off the good part and letting the rest rot.....?!?!?!?

This is the best post, ever !
