Panasonic are offering a free 5 year warranty on new Viera flat panel TVs until the end of November

Go here to find a local participating dealer

http://www.panasonic.co.uk/customer-support/5year.asp

I used Richer sounds for my TV as they are one of the cheapest.

Heres some T&Cs

This dealer locator provides a list of retailers participating in the "FREE 5 Year warranty" promotion. In order to locate your local participating retailer from the dealer locator below please enter either your postcode or town and click on the search button.

Not as good as it first sounds as you need to make a subsequent purchase. Also, the link for locating a dealer doesnt work!

LOL, I think the part you have read is just badly worded. What they mean is you need to go to a participating dealer, see a demo, then SUBSEQUENTLY buy a qualifying TV on that day.

'Proper' T&C's here:

LOL - yeah I did correct myself but it is pretty poorly worded. Anyway, the link doesnt work on my firefox browser.

Agreed, terribly badly-worded, all too common these days, even from the large conglomerates.

They've been running this all summer. Lots of folk on the AVforums have had issues getting the warranty details back from Panasonic once they have registered. Add to this the fact that Panasonic main dealers can be pricier than many others i would say that you might still be better of with a John Lewis Price match.

I must say i got my Panasonic from JL this summer and the pricematch was easy. I phoned the store & told them the details. Called them a day or so later and they agreed the pricematch on the phone and gave me the reference number (a letter was also sent). I reserved at store, collected and then noticed the next day that the pricematched price had dropped another £50 (empiredirect) so i called JL and they refunded me £50 as part of their 28 day after purchase pricematch promise. No hassles at all. 5 year guarantee from JL and a bonus £50 after I bought it.:w00t:

I would say go the JL way if you can.

I got my Panasonic price matched by JL a month or so ago and it was great customer service as you'd expect from JL.

I would recommend going the JL way too.

If you're in no hurry hang on until after christmas when you're likely to see significant price cuts if last year is any indication then get JL to match the best price available and get the 5 year warranty anyway

will john lewis price match internet based companies prices too or just local stores within a certain distance from their store ??
#10
I would prefer to use my local richer sounds, are they not running the deal?

You'll only get a one year warranty from RS. Or you can get John Lewis to price match RS and they'll even throw in a 5 year warranty.
#12
Great deal. Panasonic make the best flat panels about these days - in my opinion. To get a 5 year warranty out of it is a great bonus, especially without having to piddle about with John Lewis and their undersales team, who can be hit and miss - branch dependant.

You'll find that Richer Sounds are a participating dealer.

Had problems with JL matching price I got from a company in Ilford (JL were around £400 more expensive). Took two weeks to get a letter back from JL stating they would not price match, but no proper reason given. I bought last year when Panasonic were running a similar offer of a 5 year warranty. My advise would be to shop around amongst the shops, travelling further afield if necessary.

Great TV's though, never thought I would say this, but the picture is better than Sony!

According to the Richer Sounds site you need to fork out an extra 10% for a 5 year warranty on Panasonics or any other brand.

Well that is totally wrong! I've got the 5 year warranty from RS (Sheffield) this month.

[FONT=Arial]As Moob said Richer Sounds are a participating dealer. So for example, follow the link via the original post and put in Sheffield and you get
Richer Sounds
130 Witham Road
Sheffield

Or Leeds
Richer Sounds
117-121 Vicar Lane
Leeds

Or Nottingham
RICHER SOUNDS
108, Mansfield Road
Nottingham
NG1 3HD

The site to use to see if they are a valid retailer is the panasonic site via the link in the first post

They won't price match internet companies, only bricks and mortar. There used to be no restriction on distance from the store - ie they'd match anyone on the UK mainland - but even that is going now, I read recently. I think the latest version is retailers within 8 miles.
#18
This link may (probably won't!) clear up the 8 miles thoughts - trialling in Scotland and likely to be UK wide next year.

isn't this the 3rd yr ain a row panasonic have run this promotion? normally happens before a good price drop ;-)
#20
Richer sounds are a participating dealer as I bought our Panasonic TV from them and that is how I originally found out about the deal.
They do offer their own 5 year warranty on all TVs at extra cost as well.

JL 5 year deal is good but in many cases be prepared for a long haul, JL to check stock at the other store, is it online only, is it in stock etc.
This can take some time as it is passed to a dedicated price matching dept within JL labelled never knowingly undersold.
One other problem with JL is they do not stock every model of Panasonic Viera TV so may not get the model you want, at least with this you get a choice of different stores to choose from so chances are one of them will have your TV.

I also think that empire direct are a participating dealer as they now have stores even though you can order direct.

End of the day it gives another option for obtaining a free 5 year warranty whereas some companies will charge upto £200 more for the privilege..

I bought a Panasonic 42" plasma with the 5 year warranty , it took 4 weeks to receive the certificate .

So will richer sounds honour the price with the 12month warranty now that panasonic are bumping it up to 5 years?

Also when i search for a local dealer running the promotion, my local Richer Sounds (middlesbrough) doesn't appear as an option.

They did with me, Just go in and state the price as it is on their website and they will match the price as sometimes the shop is a little more expensive than the website.
This offer does not affect RS as it is offered directly by Panasonic so at no cost to RS, if anything they will welcome you as they still get to sell a TV.

I have quickly checked your RS and your correct Middlesbrough does not show
The next nearest Hull , Newcastle and Leeds all show so maybe worth giving Middlesbrough store a ring to find out, cannot see why they would not be part of the promotion, the guys are normally very helpful.

It took John Lewis about 10 minutes to verify and call me back confirming the price match and give me the offer.

you have to go into a rs shop to see the 5 year warrentee also rc have pushed the price up from 755 to 799 the past few weeks probebly because this tv gets such good customer ratings and also the extended warrentee

Jesus - amazing speed. I've tried about a dozen price matches in the last year and the quickest is 4 days, generally 6 days (they tell me 5-7 days) and once they didnt even reply!!

For me, its less hassle and easier when someone else offers the 5 year guarantee (my Mrs wants one with almost everything electrical!) to avoid JL, especially when they would be the people I would price-match is. I kind of like the people who offer prices continually cheaper than JL and dont have the BS of never knowingly undersold & in this instance the 5 year guarantee withdraws the JL trumpcard.
But there are many on places like AVForums who rate JL higher than I do & have had great experiences, so whichever way you jump, a panny TV is a decent thing to get in my experience.

I rang up and the person I spoke to sorted it all out very quickly. Mind you, they were price matching another John Lewis store which might have streamlined the process a bit.

Maybe though it takes longer if you go into the store and ask them to price match. The sales assistant on the shop floor will just fill in the forms and let it go through the system.

My mate just bought his new 42" Viera from Panasonic......and they Price-matched John Lewis with 5 year guarantee with free delivery & setup ! :w00t:

Ah! Now the reason comes out! You were probably still lucky. They normally still insist it goes through the department that deals with it. They must be really busy (ringing up the same shops to ask for the same products!!!)

I have to say that the girl I dealt with at JL did sound a bit hot...perhaps she sensed a bit of chemistry and put it through extra quick...well I can dream:whistling:

Opps, the wife's coming - where's that delete button and shredder!!??

Hi

The cheapest price for the TH-42PX70PED I can find is £799 from Richer sounds. This is to include the 5yr warranty offer on at the moment.

Does any one know a cheaper place to buy this TV with the 5yr Panasonic warranty ?

I got the TX32LXD70 from JL. Asked for a price match on Richer sounds in glasgow, rang me back in about an hour to say that was fine - £599.95 with free 5 year warranty. Excellent deal and I'd rather have the JL warranty than Panny one.
