Found out about this at my local Esso petrol station (Bracknell) earlier today after noticing one small flash on one of the pumps. It's a pretty simple offer - if you aren't offered their top of the range £6.99 Gold car washes, then ask and you'll get a free one.

Believe the Gold Wash includes wax, wheels and all that gubbins.

Only available offline, surprisingly enough, and said it finished at the end of April.

excellent, i'll park my car round the corner and walk in as an obvious pedestrian for a paper bound to get a freebie :)

hot from me!
#2
does one have to be purchasing a lesser car wash to be entitled to the offer?
#3
There was a lot of terms and conditions attached to the offer so i dont think that would work, it looks like it is just a con by esso to make sure there employees try and sell more washes and the cost will come out of the employees own pocket if they fail to ask.

And............... Every job has down sides if you don't do what you are supposed to do. As far as i am concerned this is a good deal, i just hope the employee isn't on the ball when i try :whistling:

I've got a company car................... so who cares, it saves me doing it :whistling:

has anyone had any success getting a free one then?
#17
so what do you need to do? just pay for your petrol and if they don't offer you get a car wash or ask for a standard car wash?
#18
Pretty sure this will be if you are buying a standard car wash, they are looking to upgrade so they make more money. Can you imagine them asking everysingle customer if they wanted a car wash, that would not be very helpful to business.
#19
LOL i wondered why I was asked that the other week

I just said is it free and she said no, as I chuckled to myself whilst she was looking at my as if I was a rapist, no sense of humour i tell ya
#20
So what is the minimum spend?
#21
This is an idea that has winged its way from the US&A.... buy some petrol or anything, when at the till the cashier should ask you if you want to pay to have a car wash, if they forget to ask then you are entitled to a free one, I don't think they have to pay out of their wages if they dont ask, but if the till shows several free washes they might get a talking to.
#22
and if they refuse to give you a free car wash.....?
#23
I reckon the free car wash includes free brake fluid/paint stripper with the free scratches, lol
#24
didnt even know esso still existed!:w00t:

but if anyone didnt know; pizzahut do a similar type of offer
if you dont get asked if you want any sides, you are entitled to a free side
(Or something similar to this)

I went onto the Esso website and searched for one near home, It showed me one of their petrol stations which was knocked down a few months ago! They are building flats! At the huge price they are asking for them, I doubt if the residents will wash my car for free!!!!!!!!!!!

hi, I work for esso, this is not a new offer. This is started last now one year before. If cashier didnt offer carwash, even u r pedastian who buying paper, u r entiled to free car wash. But not like as post, u will get cheapest car wash. But this will effect the staff vey badly, if cashier face more than 10 free car wash, he will get a warning letter or more than 20, get suspended immidiatly. This is kind of social engineering. The result of these of post some of the staff loose their job, who work for minimum wages, but who. Cares ? :)
#29
After you've finished going through a petrol station car wash, why not finish the job and make your car look brand new by belt-sanding the bonnet, doors and roof.

It's definitely a gold wash at the Bracknell one at least - the promo flyers got it on.

I spotted this a few weeks back at my local Esso station. I paid for my fuel and nobody asked if I wanted to have my car washed. I complained and, after a short debate, got given a free gold wash. :)

Crikey, If I gave staff an order to promote car washes and I had to give them a warning after 10 times, I'd say they were very lucky indeed to still have a job. Wouldn't trust them handling my cash if they are so dozy. Mind you I'd pay them above the minimum wage :whistling:

Dont listen to this, it is complete BS, carwash do not scratch your car, i work in the industry so i know them inside out, the white marks the nylon brushs leave behind are not scratches, but they are plastic residue which gets striped from the brushes, i used to sell brushes and i used to take a plane of glass in with me to the customer, i would whack the glass with the plastic brush and show them the marks it leaves behind (better quality the brush the less plastic it leaves behind), and as you know, soft plastic isnt going to scratch glass, it depends on how old the brushes are to how much residue is left behind, but esso use a brush called foam brite and the only downside to these are that they get really heavy when wet and can pull wing mirrors off, we get about 10 calls a week from sites saying a wing mirror or wiper blade has been pulled off, (out of about 1000 sities)

the problem with carwash is that sites dont maintain them, 99% of damage comes from aerials and other **** getting stuck in the brush from the previous car and then then next guy goes in with out the site checking and as the aerials spins in the brush it completely scratches the car! so give the brushes a look before you go in!

But of course no carwash can wash as good as a Bosnian with a foam brush and a sponge.

I love car washes. Saves me loads of time when the hire car gets too dirty (normally when you get mud on your trousers when getting in). A £1 wash works a treat!
