no minimum AV FORUM posts but minimum spend of £20 still applies

As per title no minimum posts just have to become a member.

Here is the update below.

Ok it's a month since the Scan people told me I can remove the 20 post minimum.
I have now had time to do it! No minimum posts.

It was always a dumb idea. Having to be a member is still a dumb idea.

It took him a month to get round to changing it on the website, so it will last at least a month.

is true how many people have stopped themselves from buying things from scan because of delivery charges. In a way I am glad they charged so that put me off otherwise I would have bought like 4 hard drives by now and a Blu ray burner.

I guess is their loss.

If they can afford to do free delivery to members surely they could afford to do it for everyone.

Please keep charging for delivery my credit card begs you lol:p

Poor AV Forums will get battered now no doubt.

I think they were getting more battered with people posting just about anything for the sake of it just to get their 20 posts. Mods were working overtime removing smileys and pointless posts to keep the forums spam free.
#9
typical, I just ordered a computer of there 2 days ago!
#10
i dont mean to be thick but how do i get the free del ? i have registerd with avforums ?
#11
this is what I did . I logged into forums searched free delivery and it tells you there that you are entitled to it. try here

Never liked AVForums, I made some comment on YouTube about how they paid $6000 dollars to have Sphinx (search engine) integrated with their Vbulletin forum system and the admin came off as a bit of a ****.

Sphinx is free open source software btw.

I've been using Scan over 10 years (as they're only a 15 minute drive from me) and their service is absolutely spot on. I've had a few faulty parts as I used to buy a bit of volume from them when I was a self employed technician (but that's not their fault but the suppliers), and they're always great for returns.

Thoroughly recommended.

Why the hell is this hot? ive been buying stuff from scan for years and before they started the free next day, but posting it to here was useless everyone already knows its mentioned every time there's a scan offer. I'm sorry but its stone cold due to the fact that you have scored a hot deal on something that is easily found.

How is it easily found as the free delivery rules have only just changed tonight? Where was it yesterday when I searched?

It was only possible with 20 posts over on AVFORUMS and people were posting needlessly just to get free delivery.

I did not try and score a hot deal. I was trying to save people time posting when there was now no need. God knows why anyone would bother trying to help people with an attitude like yours.

and furthermore those who were unable to take advantage of the deals posted yesterday and today because they hadn't posted 20 times AND had to be a member for a week now can.

Everyone did not know and even if they were aware its now changed!!

is this new lol

Its new to me.

Yesterday I wanted to buy a buffalo hard drive that was posted. I was unable to take advantage of the free delivery because
1, I did not know about it despite being a member now for a few years,
2, because even when I did join I had to post 20 'useful' posts and
3, because I had not been a member for a week.

Today I got an e-mail saying it had now changed and that none of the above applied enabling me to take advantage of the free delivery and therefore saving me money. (£7.99)

To me it was a new deal and I thought it may be useful to others who could now save £7.99 too on the many recently posted Scan deals.

Sucks that you've had a bad experience, as I literally cannot rate them any higher then I do. Really helpful and intelligent community. Literally always willing to help sort, or work things out.

Also, you can pick up some absolute bargains on the classifieds over there. Definitely my favourite community on the internet.
#23
Lets hope scan do not just adjust up prices to compensate...
#24
I didn't realise you had to have 20 posts on AV Forums to qualify for free delivery on Scan. I've been using Scan with free delivery for years now, because when I first ordered from them I was already an AV Forums member, so I guess I must have already made over 20 posts. Still, thanks for letting everyone know the rules have now changed.

The admin there is a bit of a nob and their mods are a bit jobsworth but its a good forum never the less man. :)

This is why it's hot, the 20 post rule was easy to circumvent, 5 minutes, 20 junk posts after joining and you qualified, it was the week that made it hard.
#27
Hey OP,

Have some heat and great news indeed. Have managed 4 useful posts since I registered with avforums in November 2010, so this is excellent. Mind you, I shall continue posting useful info there, but at least I am not going to feel pressured to fill the 20 post quota, woo hoo!!

Cheers X)

Thanks for posting this ... it's appreciated. By some !

hmm, this is going to be abused even more - I hope they like a load of inactive users.
#30
Last time I used it i'm pretty sure it was a £70 min. So good news. Think i've got about 3 posts on AVF and always had the free delivery option lol. Might buy something from SCAN now as I only wanted a couple of PC cases, didn't really want to have to buy a load of useless tat to top up the spend level.

Edit: actually a gross overestimation....

Not available to members from Northern Ireland as per usual.

Delivery to Northern Ireland - still priced at £12.70.

SCANdalous!

Here's the actual shipping costs for anyone living outside what they class as 'Mainland UK' Non UK Mainland - 2 Day Service
Mon - Sat
Channel
Islands Eire Northern
Ireland Scottish
Highlands
1 Parcel (upto 30kg)
** Maximum dimension 610mm(L) x 540mm(W) x 470mm(H) £15.30 (inc vat)
EIRE £12.75 (ex vat) £12.34 (inc vat)
NORTHERN IRELAND £10.28 (ex vat) £12.70 (inc vat)
CHANNEL ISLANDS £10.58 (ex vat) £15.30 (inc vat)
SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS £10.58 (ex vat) £15.30 (inc vat)

An absolute disgrace considering Royal Mail/ParcelForce charge the same price for the whole of the UK, except the Channel Islands.

Edited By: Taintedone on Feb 11, 2011 08:32: Added shipping prices for SCAM.

I imagine you still have to spend over £20 ex VAT which can be a pita. I ended up persuading my mate to buy a soundcard as well so I got free delivery :D
#33
Thanks for the update
#34
thanks - lots of good info on AVForums.
#35
I'd rather a company charged a reasonable shipping rate than hiking up the prices of everything to compensate for free delivery - like 7DayShop did.

I priced up a new PC last month and compared Scan with my next preferred online stockist - even without the free delivery Scan worked out about £100 cheaper and if they'd had it in stock I would have spent my £2k there.

As it happens they succumbed to the Sandy Bridge knee-jerking that week so my business went elsewhere, but I personally rank competitive prices and stock availability above a free delivery gimmick.

Great information - thanks. Take no notice of the whingers!

Just registered and made two posts. the link does not give me the option to click through to Scan :(

Is the one week membership still a requirement?

Excellent point, I joined yesterday and rattled off 20 posts so I could take advantage of the free delivery only to then notice, I had to be a member for 7days. So this is a good deal and well worth mentioning as I can now make my purchase today instead of waiting till next thursday and possibly missing out on the product I wanted.Heat added.
