I suppose this is handy for some folks but Currys have been doing this for ages on everything including all major appliances.

Still a move in the right direction hopefully :) (except for 2 yr guarantee)

Most online resellers charge about £7.99 to remove old items so it's not much of a saving.
Bearing in mind i looked at a Fridge Freezer yesterday for £449.99 at currys and then went home to purchase the same item online for £328 inc delivery this week i didn't really mind paying the extra £7.99.

If John Lewis will pricematch then this is a bonus deal.... otherwise me thinks that charges like this are already factored into their price......... the 2 year warranty from them is superb as usual

Much happier talking to a knowledgable JL assistant than a spotty faced Currys oik - and in the knowledge that JL actually give two hoots once you have left the store.

This is NOT quite what it seems for one thing, they USUALLY give a 2 year guarantee on the majority of electricals - except very basic models usually; and particularly when you buy something with a FIVE year guarantee, eg. AEG or Siemens, which periodically have 5 year term guarantees, yet they specifically DON'T qualify for the 5 year on these!
BEWARE.

The free removal is only of benefit to those who pay for removals by the council, and still some offer this for free (not mine!), however since the hyper-rise in scrap metal prices, I find the streeets are suddenly full of scrap collectors now, competing for attention as such goods are worth money now to them!

I ALSO find that JL delivery times are also very long, 2 weeks when others can do within 5 days; the Fridge freezer I bought earlier this year being an example of a far from satisfactory delay, and when it arrived the delivery men were most awkward, and I ended up getting it into my ground floor kitchen myself. (not too hard, even though I am disabled, proving how awkward they were!) I will NOT be using them again, previously believing the hype about them being good as far as customer service, yet in practice, they are distinctly average for white goods (ie. pretty poor). A previous delivery was without the promised confirmation too, so I should have realised :-(

Yes, they have to provide this service, BUT there is a get out, and you will find if you book this with MANY retailers, it gets charged for, then as you are expecting it to be picked up, there suddenly is no room on the van or whatever! With a bit of fighting, you will get a refund from most, but still be left with the thing cluttering up the place. You might find this less now that scrap is valuable, but up until recently I and others have been caught out with this. Comments on many review sites will confirm this "clever" little get-out!

It used to specifically exclude online sales, unless it has changed now.

Would it be possible for me to keep the old appliance and for JL to take the wife instead?

I'm going to ask if i can pay £15.98 for them to take both

I'd like to see them try and recycle my missus :whistling:
