I have used Vyke in the past but some texts don't
get sent or received. Also some calls don't get through. When it works it is good.

Been using for a while and never had any problems, I mainly call Ireland but send and receive texts in UK. New app is good.

I find the Tesco international calling app very good and have used it all over the world to call Ireland with no probs but heat added for this too

Cool app, plus it's a British company by the looks of it. Calling and SMS rates are much cheaper than network PAYG.

FreedomPop gives free numbers too on iPhones ...just download app, install and sign up for new account: no credit card required, just email address to confirm registration. Free 200 mins/texts, no internet of course. I use them to sign up for Tesco International Calling Card, as every time they(Tesco) give £1 for free for new number. Done more than 50 times and speak for free on international numbers...

Did you have to setup a new email account for FreedomPop signup?

Easy:
1. Delete FreedomPop UK app ( if you have one installed)
2.Download FreedomPop USA app(US iTunes account needed and easy to register)
3.Use VPN to make look connection is from USA
4.Install and press"Create New Account"
Job done. On iPhone only. Android doesn't work for me to open account. But after opening account, can use Android-no problems.

I got a 'free' Freedom Pop SIM last year, was charged hefty postage and auto-signed up for add-ons for two months without realising. They wouldn't refund. Haven't tried their app though and probably won't tbh.

I tried the freedompop android app earlier on this year. The lag was terrible. It was like a news broadcast that goes wrong, the conversation was not practical at all due to the delay.
I also could not find any info about what calls were included with the minutes, so I emailed them, and they told me, if the number connects when you dial it from within the app its included, if it doesn't connect, its not included. But the same number would sometimes connect and other times not connect.
I hope it has improved, its free, and would be a very useful product for some.

They have improved, but not that much on Android. On Apple iPhones their call quality is great. But we were talking about getting numbers, not call quality. I would avoid FreedomPop as a call handler, I just use them to get UK/US number which I can use in different ways :)

In Vyke, isn't the free number only free for a month?

I've had my free Vyke number for 4 months. It's free as long as you use it and they send a message if it's about to expire so you can can make a call to keep it free.

Can I get this app and use it in during my holiday in india

I find that FreedomPop calls work fine when they connect, but 50% of the time I just get the "failed to connect to server" error

DO we have to use vpn to get usa number or will it get assigned later?
#23
Was about to install it but found this.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.freedompop.ott

Logged in with the username and password from when I requested a FreedomPop sim a few months back, no idea what I did with the sim card but it's given me the number from that sim as well as 200 free mins + texts a month etc
#24
I've been using this for the occasional call whilst on holiday. I like that you can top up by £1 instead of having to load a minumum of £10 like Skype

Alternate: Uptalk - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yuilop&hl=en
Last time I used it; you could gain call/text credit by calling you own Uptalk number.

Yep, free calls to all other users, quality is excellent. Don't use free messages as mostly use whatsapp. Mainly call landline in Ireland, around 1p per minute 8)

What payment options are there?

You can pay by debit or credit card, Paypal or via Apple in-app purchase

A pity they don't accept Google Play credit. Could be a useful way to use those survey credits.

Don't think 0870 calls are covered on my EE contract :|
#36
Except 0870 numbers aren't free for most people!

I use 18185 as their freephone number works from mobiles.
They bill via Direct Debit.
