Just picked up my glasses from D&A with a free eye test. BEWARE there are some free money off vouchers about upto £50 off. When I presented mine I could not use it as I had taken advantage of the free sunglasses offer.
Small print = Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer.

You would think it should be large print being an optician's

D&A have been bought out by Boots Opticians and will disappear from the high street rebranded as Boots very soon.... Get your eyes tested and buy online from one of the many offerings such as thespectaclecase.com who I use

D&A are rubbish. I used to be with them for contact lenses and glasses but have transfered to Specsavers and they are much better.

The contact lenses that I wear at the moment (continues wear) cost £15.50 at Specsavers whereas D&A charge £25 a month.

The desinger glasses in Specsavers are also a lot cheaper than D&A aswell.

To top it all off when I was with D&A and needed a contact lens check up, the cost of which I was already paying for in my monthly payments, the best they could ever do was shunt me into a first thing in the morning or last thing at night slot just before they closed.

Basically they saved the rest of the sight test slots during the main part of the day for customers paying up front. Whereas Specsavers I pay less for my glasses, less for my lenses and can book a contact lens check up ANY time of day.

Oh and I nearly forgot to say, my new glasses which I'm picking up from Specsavers on Monday they have booked me into a specific appointment slot in the afternoon were they are going to make sure they fit me perfectly and stuff and any neccesary adjustments will be made whereas D&A, once you've paid, they just hand them over and that's you're lot.

Specsavers win EVERY time!

A few years ago I had a "free" test from D&A, staff try on the old "go look at some glasses" before very reluctantly giving me my prescription (she hand wrote it onto a card), which was significantly stronger than my previous glasses. I ended up not buying any glasses, and a few months later went to Specsavers for a test and my prescription from them was much closer to my old one, and nowhere near the D&A one.

Now, I know that it is a subjective test and your eyes can change over time but still...

One advantage of getting a prescription at the place you buy the glasses from is that they usually stick by them if you get headaches etc.

I'd been on the monthly soft contact lenses with D&A for a couple of years (ones that you take out and clean every night). I was paying £15 a month for them altough I was aware that Specsavers only charged £12 for the same product but got round to swapping over for the sake of £3.

However when I decided to change to continues wear lenses which were £25 at D&A and only £15.50 in Specsavers I let D&A do my eye tests for them then just as they were about to set me up on a payment plan I asked for my prescription and took it next door to Specsavers. :-D

The woman at D&A looked proper livved but there was nothing they could do about it as you're entitled by law to a copy of your prescription. :p

Anyone had experience of vision express?

I got my first set of glasses from them (talking about 6 years ago now), the staff were fine, so were the glasses, but they were very expensive.

IMO specsavers are the best value for money, my local one does 1 hour lenses too; the staff are nice and frames + lenses & the prescription as all much cheaper than vision express.
e.g you can get a decent set of frames + lenses & prescription for around £80-150,
Vision express would be double that (but obviously "designer names").
