If I try and apply for one it's still adding the £9.95 card charge to the order.. Any ideas how you actually get it for free?

Ah ok.. I worked it out.. You need to go from THIS LINK.. which takes you to the page you posted, but removes the fee!

:)

Thanks!

Sorry if I miss the point, but what is the difference between this and say the Nationwide account that doesn't charge overseas fees, etc..

Obvously Nationwide is better but with this one you do not need to open a bank account.
P.S.
HSBC Plus is not charging overseas fees too.

Good exchange rate currently better than travelex who claim they will beat any exchange rate also better than M&S.
Travelex - 1 Pound = 1.2259
Marks and Spencer 1.2139
Fair - Fx 1.2425

Also safer than carrying cash around.

I've just ordered one of each (going to Vegas for NYE and bound to go to Europe again in next 3 years)
Only put $20 (£10.84) and £10 Euros (£8.05) on.. and that is the minimum amount - not the £21.68 OP stated.
Was looking at doing this a while back as being a pre-paid card you don't have the hassle of credit checks etc. Also a good way to limit your holiday spending imho as you are more aware of what 'cash' you are putting on.
My idea is to keep putting 'spare' money on between now and when I go away.. or when the exchange rate is good. Now the card is free i'm even more happy. Thanks again

Seems like a good deal as card valid for 3 years, issued by Newcastle Building Society, they issue most of the prepaid cards.

I did have one of their LAstminute Cashcards which were similar but lastminute has stoped issuing them so am looking for a substitute.

Is their any loading costs , couldnt find a page displaying the tariff & costs?

Will probably go for the paypal card issued by rbs as its a visa card as had problems using mastercard in some parts of europe.

One thing that is worth noting with these cards is - not being credit cards - they are not covered by s75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

This is the thing that provides joint and several liability between the supplier and the bank if the goods fail to be satisfactory.

So basically - if you buy something and it falls apart - the bank refunds your money with a credit card (although try to deny it - or suggests its unfair on them) - but you could only return to the supplier with this card.

Just think - if the UK used Euros - the banks would not take roughly 3-5% of our holiday money, as over 90% of us holiday in the Euro zone.

Use Quidco for £8.20 cash back and if you load the card with £500.00 the card is FREE!

Saw the Quidco deal when I first looked a while ago, but this is a better option as you save £10 minimum. Also good if you're like me and don't want to put £500 on the card... or want one of each...

I suppose now would be the time to get one of these cards, with the pound being in freefall against the dollar?

Just to confirm so there is no charge to get the card?

Is there a charge to withdraw at home or abroad or use over a counter?
