Good deal, I think, if you are looking for a new boiler.

Only problem is British Gas tend to be deeply uncompetitive when it comes to boiler prices.

Correct. Was quoted £4500 for a new boiler. My parents had a guy fit and supply one for £2100.

We had ours fixed in the end, but their prices are way too much

That's the prob with this deal, their boiler prices are inflated by around 2-300%.

Sorry, voted cold.

this is a **** offer

i had a quote off British gas 2 years ago to replace my boiler - quote was 3.5k

found a local corgi plumber who fitted one for £1250, i also got him to use the same boiler as British gas (a baxi)

so only £2250 difference between them (going on that i use about £360 gas a year - so i save the equivalent of 6 1/4 years of gas)

Same for us. British gas quoted just under £5,000 for a greenstar combi boiler with wireless thermostat, local corgi guy fitted the exact same thing (british gas' most efficient boiler) for £2,400. The saving of almost £2,600 will pay for about 6 years worth of gas for our house (at current prices).

when will people learn not to use british gas, my company will charge around 2300 for a top quality boiler supplied and fitted whilst british gas will charge you around 5 grand for the same work,

they just pull the wool over peoples eyes with stupid offers like this which save you a few hundred whilst actually costing you two and a half grand more

RANT OVER :)

Horrible to hear the storys of BG, but good to see people knowing when someone is pulling a fast one on them.

When our boiler did break we used the BG Set fee Fix. It was £159. A guy came out, took a look and said yep, you need XXXX. Said he will order it. Came back 2 days later, fitted it and all was good. If they cant fix it (ie, new boiler) you get the money back anyway, so its winwin. Chap was very friendly. Talked to a plumber, said it would of been double that to fix. So i was fairly impressed.

ye but thats another way they catch you out, most problems with boilers normally take under an hour without the parts, this way they are charging you 159 per hour!!!! on other situations when you need parts it might make bg lose a bit of money but they will recoup that easily when they are charging 159 pound per hour effectivly!!

Sounds like BG is not the place to order your new boiler. However, I have been using BG for their 3* boiler service for a few years and I must say I am quite happy with the service I have received from them.

I see what you are saying. But £159 for it fixed, no matter what the problem. I was prepared to pay. I'd had a quick look and i knew nothing had been touched. I suppose i got my moneys worth then, some may not be lucky.
