Free home broadband when you buy Mobile Broadband for £20/month

Looks like it applies to both existing and new customers. £7.50 off the Home Broadband Bill for one year! So for the standard Broadband it is free, £2.50 for the premium and so on.

Choose O2 Mobile Broadband for £20 a month and as a thank you we'll give you the choice of taking either:

* Free O2 Home Broadband Standard package for your first 12 months; or
* Save £7.50 (inc. VAT) on O2 Business Broadband Standard package for 12 months.

If you want to upgrade our Standard package, you can take our Premium or Ultimate packages and receive a £7.50 (inc. VAT) per month discount. Customers living outside of our network area may still be able to get our Broadband Access package and receive a £7.50 (inc. VAT) per month discount.

Simply buy your Mobile Broadband and call 0800 954 1407 and quote the reference from the leaflet sent in your pack. An O2 advisor will then talk you through our packages and set up your O2 Home or Business Broadband.

If you're an existing Mobile Broadband customer, you're also entitled to the offer. Existing home or business broadband customers can also benefit from the full offer if you buy Mobile Broadband. You'll be contacted in August to explain how you can take advantage.

For anyone, O2 broadband IS the best. No question about it.

What's the mobile broadband like? Reliable?

Voted COLD....

WHY would you need home broadband if youve also got mobile broadband...surely you just plug the receiver in at home if you use the mobile broadband on the move?????

Vote COLD sorry, O2 know that nobody would need Mobile broadband AND home broadband so its a no deal really.

You can get Mobile Broadband for £10 which you can use on the go AND at home so why pay DOUBLE for the same???

You can but what about the rest of the family at home, and they are have limited download amounts? I'm an online gamer so this isn't going to be suitable for the home.
Where can you get Mobile Broadband for £10?

For me, i'd want high speed broadband at home, but use my laptop out and about a lot. This for me is a very good deal.

Also. Downaload limits on mobile broadband mean people who download a lot aren't going to be limited with caps. Just because a deal may not be right for one doesn't mean it's not right for everyone.

it is ok, not sure how good O2 mobile broadband is compared to 3 but for with 3 you got 5gb for £7.50 where as here you get 3gb for £20, I know you get the home broadband free but it is still a lot more expensive than 3 mobile broadband.

Mobile broadband isn't a like-for-like substitute for home broadband. Do you honestly think you can do absolutely everything on your mobile broadband that you can do on your home one?

well it pretty much is. except the limit on useage. but some home broadband limits are 1-10gb anyway.

but the offer looks very good. i am paying £20 a month for 3gb mobile broadband

my concerns thou . seems like a 18 month contract with 12 months free broadband?
#13
Just FYI, O2s mobile broadband also includes access to 7,500 wifi hotspots via 'The Cloud'
This doesn't eat into your 3GB allowance, and also gives you faster speeds when you're out and about...
Seems a good deal to me

You're kidding right?

Mobile broadband speeds are 'likely' to be far less than ADSL, will be higher latency, oh and there's that 3Gb fair use policy.

Also, how would you network a family house of PCs and Consoles, network cameras, wireless PDAs or printers etc over that 3G connection? With difficulty, that's how. Bit of a problem if you're out and about with the mobile connection and the family want to use the internet in the house!

Another thing is 3G coverage is far less than DSL so you may not get decent coverage where you live.

Next time you automatically go to vote cold probably best leaving a comment FIRST before you do it eh? This is a good deal.

O2 home broadband is done via Bethere, which is pretty much the best broadband going.
#16
I have O2 home broadband and it has been absolutely amazing, no caps, no disconnections, excellent speed and customer service for just £7.50. I won't be going for the mobile broadband because I don't think it is a good deal. In effect I would be paying £12.50 for the mobile broadband which is more expensive than 3 mobile broadband and I believe it is not as fast in most areas.
#17
What concerns me is the price of the Mobile Broadband. I'm sure people remember 3 were doing a deal for £7.50 a few months ago

I pay Sky £10 for 16MB broadband and say I took out one of the 3's £7.50 dongles.
£10 + £7.50 = £17.50

Here I would pay £2.50 for the 16MB Premium package plus £20 for O2's Mobile Broadband
£2.50 + £20 = £22.50

That's a £5 difference per months for me.

The image below may help people compare:

It does seem like a good deal on the surface, but as you say if you compare it to the 3 dongle deal then its no more expensive to buy O2 broadband for your home (even at the higher none customer rate) and a usb modem contract from 3 which has a higher monthly usage allowance, so maybe not such a good deal afterall

The £7.50 for 5 Gigabytes deal is for customers who already have an ongoing phone contract with 3 which might cost £15 a month extra.

Cheaper if you do not need to factor BT line rental into the sums.

My only worry concerns what ports are blocked on O2 that would stop you doing things on O2 that you can do on 3.

Maybe. But this says "Half price 5gb mobile broadband for anyone (not just existing customers)"

And jonstone12, you're right about the higher monthly allowance. This may or may not equate to the access you're given to 7,500 Wi-Fi. Guess it depends on if you spend time near one (I often don't).

Well it does specifically say that the discount is for the first 12 months, so I assume for the remainder of the mobile broadband contract the home broadband reverts to the normal price.

If the 3 mobile dongle is truely available at £7.50 per month to everyone then it seems a much better deal, even with a standard o2 broadband package alongside it, than the combined home/mobile package on offer here
#26
seems an ok deal, if you not tied up to anyone, although not the cheapest, however O2 broadband is cut above the others.
#27
Can this deal be somehow tied into the iphone 3G when signing up for one. I have been thinking of getting one and not sure if you have to go with the prescribed tariffs that they advertise?

Yes but you could get a standard O2 broadband deal and the 3 mobile broadband deal and get more monthly usage and it would be cheaper as the home broadband offer from O2 here only gives you a discounted rate for 12 months where the mobile broadband contract is for 18 months

Here's the evidence that o2 is the best major provider of broadband:-

o2's 3g coverage is awful so id strongly advise checking areas you travel to before buying this.

I travel a lot with work and found it awful almost everywhere i went and hardly ever got 3.5g hence i swapped back to 3 within a week who have much better coverage

They do certainly get a lot of favourable reviews although its interesting that thet score quite a bit better than BE and its basically the same service isn't it so maybe these surveys are not completely accurate.
#33
sounds very good but only if they did landline packages aswell that would of been perfect.

I suppose it is down to personal experience. I have the new 3g iPhone and the 3g is absolutley fantastic and I never have issues. I travel every week with work and have been to the following since I had my iPhone 3G and coverage has been fine Milton Keynes, London, Bradford, Belfast, Glasgow, Billericay, Liverpool. I also live in a remote little village and I even get coverage at home.

I would definitley take up the broadband offer if I didn't have access to virgin cable broadband, which is super fast and my iphone which gives me everything I need on the move. :)

Nope...its a COLD COLD COLD deal for me - i use Mobile broadband AS my home broadband...and put it this way...with Mobile Broad band you can cancel your BT line rental like i have done and saved £13 line rental a month....so really, home broadband with 02 is £20 PLUS your BT line rental which ya HAVE to pay so really its £33....i get Vodafone mobile broadband and NO line rental and thus at £15 its LESS than half price for this deal!!

Still vote HOT?...Mmmmm..think about it yeah?:whistling:

A wee bit of an exaggeration - most people find the telephone service which comes with a telephone line to be quite useful.
