for those who are interested this contract is available for the Desire Z

Probably worth going for the Galaxy S2, 4.3" screen on it as with the Desire HD, still hot though, I suppose even if I don't think it'd worth going for it over the Galaxy S2 http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-149-99-13-50-a-month-for-24-months-90-cashback-includes-inte/928971?page=7

The price is 480 pounds, not 20. It may still be a good deal, but it does not look cheap to me.

Disagree. If you set the phone up so nothing running in background, screen brightness low etc etc the battery actually lasts a good 2.5 days with average usage. After all it is a mahoooosive screen which needs a lot of juice to shine!
The days of charging your phone once a week have long gone, overnight charging will soon if not already is the norm.

2.5 days not on your nelly. Maybe without turnin the phone on

Yeah I just thought I would make it up! duhhh.

anyone who's complaining the Desire HD lags I have a solution for you. I used to have a problems HTC album would take ages loading up thumbnails & it would crash in slideshow.
follow these steps to turn on USB debugging mode:
The solution is just enable the USB Debugging Mode on your Android device. To do this, just go to your home screen, click Menu, then click Settings.
http://theheatweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2be7ad29e779_EA15/Android---Go-To-Settings_thumb.jpg
Go to Applications, choose Development then check USB debugging.
http://theheatweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2be7ad29e779_EA15/Android---Enable-USB-Debugging_thumb.jpg

in short:
Menu > settings > applications > development > turn on ‘USB debugging’

2 Words: Juice Defender

Never get less than 2 days from a charge unless it's being hammered watching movies / playing games.
#19
Or just stick a custom ROM on and overclock it :-) . Not that it needs it ~ grab Leedroid 2.2 and you'll get a day and a half of good use from it
#20
Agree, even with the phone on standby, it hardly makes it anyweher near 2 days and fiddling with the internet drains the phone down to dead by about lunch time, i have the adnroid apps killer to preserve battery and still no good, i also have the screen on auto brightness and again no good. In comparison, i have the desire S (o2 deal) and i ve been playing with it since yesterday and still got battery on it. In short HTC Desire HD excellent phone, lonely screen and responsive system, i cant fault it, but the battery wont last u through the day unless u turn off 3G and not text and talk a lot

My phone does with 3G active and approx 20 texts and 30mins calls a day!.

fiddling with the internet drains the phone down to dead by about lunch time,

Eh......thats some serious fiddling! lol.

Agreed android apps killer actually uses more battery life as it kills some of the HD performance functions.

Think you got a dud battery there pal. Or I got a very good one for some reason!

I use this app and have to say it makes a hell of a lot of difference! I haven't had two days out of my phone but to be honest I do use my phone quite a bit. Also I leave it on default mode but if you tweak the settings I'm sure one could save more battery power.

But from looking at the the battery usage menu, it seems that almost 90% of the power, or maybe more, is used up by the display. So I really think that it's a good idea, alongside using juice defender, to try and control that.

For £30 a month on 3 or orange you might as well spend the extra £10 and get 500 mins and 5000 texts and an internet allowence

I spend £20 a month on htc wildfire for the same as the deal above, 500 mins 5000 texts and internet allowence for desire. Not much difference in the phones but i rather the extra tenner in my pocket each month.

They are not, I dealt with them on eBay, they sell used items listed as new, avoid this company.

No way can i get my battery to last a full day, ive taken to carrying a spare round with me and even then on a long train journey i had killed both batteries within 15 hours. I will give juice defender a go.

great deal - some heat for you!

just a word of warning - this link gives the referer id along with it. clear your cookies and then copy the link into notepad, then goto quidco and search for affordible mobiles, then sleect them - this initiates your session with them - make a not of the url at the top especially the refid

the url you pasted in notepad, change the siteid to the one quidco has sent through and then in the same browser winndow (session frmo quid co) paste the new url in
and bobs your uncle.

failure to do this and i am sure you will not get the quidco and i coulkdnt find the deal on the site. My quidco tracked 20 minutes after going for this deal.

Can anyone recommend a spare battery for this phone?

no comparison between wildfire and desire HD. Wildfire is so slow.

Tesco has desire HD for free and £30 per month for 750 mins, unlimited texts and 512 meg data (although I think data is unlimited as if you check your allowance after signing up, it says unlimited). Only downside is the 24 month contract.

Voted hot!
From my limited user experience, I agree that is a fab phone.
I got one from Virgin Mobile and unfortunately it lasted about 20 minutes - OTA firmware update bricked it. VM tech support useless - didn't even suggest restoring to factory settings and I was told that I should have left the phone charging for 16 hours - the manual says that it charges in about 3 hours and indeed the "I am fully charged" green light did come on after that time, I just couldn't be bothered to debate with someone trained to a standard lower than Currys.
Courier replacement due imminently and I will not bother updating. Btw VM contract for a Virgin Media customer is £17ish for 600 mins, unlimited texts.

I have this phone and at first I was bothered about the battery not lasting a day. went on forums and turned off everything, never had wigits on the homescreens, brightness down etc...it does make a difference, but whats the point in having a smart phone and not using everything!
I look at it this way...I have a mini PC in my hands, it can do even more than my old netbook, I can watch movies, play 3d games, take notes(Evernote), check my emails, football results(fotmod), take brilliant photos/video's, check prices of clothes(shopsavvy), foods etc..get info about buildings(goggles), get info about the night sky(google sky).
My netbook can;t do all this and only last 2.5 hrs....my Desire HD lasts 10-15 hrs doing all this. I have my homescreens filled with all my fav apps/games...Its the norm to put it on charge as soon as I come home from work....if your wanting a phone that last for days and days go buy a Nokia 3300....this Desire Hd is so much more than a phone and I love it....

this is not a SMART phone, avoid

Its a bit too smart for its battery , on the plus side it charges from USB so its no hardship to carry a charge lead around and youre never far from a computer these days its just a case of charge it at every opportunity.
The battery life is a pain but id rather live with that then use a brick with a weeks battery life.

Has anyone tried the 1600mah batteries that are available for the phone? Brand is Mugen who seem to have a good reputation.

according to forum reports they dont last any longer than the ones that are in already, yes you can carry a spare but I dont want to keep taking of the lid on the side to put batteries in and out, it will mark it eventually by sticking in your nail or some other sharp object
#38
Install RevolutionHD rom get 2 days of battery out of it on decent use, ie general browsing and listening to music. There are loads of roms out there to try out
#39
Orange have a good deal for upgrades (i think).
I went to £15 a month 100mins, unltd texts, and 250mb data and i paid £99 towards the phone. Its 24 months but an excellent price for people who have wifi at home anyway, and text alot. Plus it keeps the monthly outgoings a lot lower than it could be.

Cold.

http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/aw2/phone/HTC_Desire_HD/
The first 2 deals basically are better than this and you can also get £50 cashback through quidco.
The best atm is £387 overall minus £50 quidco, leaves us with £337.
