Last year I switched to electronic billing on a Pay Monthly plan on Orange in order to see itemised calls, and avoid being charged £1 (or £1.50) per month for a paper bill.

However I found a loophole today that means you can get free itemised postal billing from Orange.

If you get a monthly text telling you when your bill is available to view online then like me you may get this SMS at 8am which can be a tad annoying on a weekend.

I called Orange to ask if they could change the time that this SMS was sent to me and was surprised to be told that they can't change the time, but what they can do is take off the monthly SMS alert and revert to sending me itemised paper bills through the post - at no charge.

When I queried this, the chap I spoke to reconfirmed that there is no charge, something to do with the fact that charging for itemised billing is optional for Orange and it was the only way to stop getting the 8am messages.

Hope it helps someone.

Do we really need more paperwork, more trees cut down, more money wasted on postage, the labour costs of delivery etc. I think not.

Why can't you just print the information out (it should be available online) or at worst, you have to opt in each month to have it delivered and I think that should be at some cost.

All I know is that Orange wanted to charge me a fee for itemised billing which is something that I had previously enjoyed free for 9 years so I changed to non-itemised billing. Now I can get itemised billing back without paying any extra.

I also need paper copies of my bills for expense purposes and the Orange website is so slow for generating and downloading pdf copies of bills, so if I can get them delivered it saves me some time and effort.
